She would come back for Hope just like she did for Freya. Esther craved being a mother so she asked her sister for help. Dahlia performed a spell but not without a price. In return, she would get every firstborn of every generation. Therefore, Hope was part of the deal just like Freya. Freya was Mikael's and Esther's firstborn. Then unexpected happened- all the remaining Mikaelson children turned into vampires and none of them could reproduce anymore. Hope is the only new Mikaelson family member since the 11th century- so that's why this issue hasn't been raised before.
