1. There's 2 ways of taking a cure- one is directly swallowing and other is just drinking blood of a person who already has a cure in their system. That's how both Damon and Elena can become humans, kind of like Silas did. 2. Taking a cure does not age you. In order to start rapidly aging, someone has to suck out all of your blood. Katherine did not have any complications until Silas drank from her. (She was complaining beforehand, however those were just everyday struggles she was facing, since she transitioned from immortal being to mortal). 3. Therefore, Elena would not age until someone drank from her. Even if Damon did, there would not be major differences given the fact that she has only been a vampire for a few years.
