2025-03-14 20:03:18 +0000 UTCNew Orleans witches practice a different type of magic than the one we see in TVD with Bonnie (she practices spirit magic mostly) Davina and all New Orleans witches practice Ancestral magic. I believe they explained in S1 that they consecrate their ancestors on their land. Basically burry them in New Orleans soil through ritual and thats how they access their magic. The ancestors grant them the power they need to do magic (the Harvest). So even though there is no other-side anymore, New Orleans witches die and get placed in the Ancestral Well when they die and their spirits get trapped there. That's where Davina and Kol were this episode, because Kol died a witch and Davina buried his body in New Orleans, so his spirit (a vampire) is now trapped in there.

2025-03-14 01:35:59 +0000 UTCSince you guys asked: Davina went to the Ancestral Well. Kol died as a witch so his spirit could be consecrated and sent there to give him a chance at being brought back. If he’d died as a vampire his souls would be gone completely.
