Concerning Patreon's New Decision on Contributions

Starting December 18th, Patreon will impose a fee for all contributing patrons ("you"). This fee is 2.9% + 35 cents on top of your given contribution. This allows Creators ("me"), to obtain 95% of the total contributions instead of giving up up to 20% of it as fees.

Old: $2.00 from Patron = $0.10 Patreon Fee + ($0.10 + $0.05) PayPal Fee + $1.75 to Creator.

New: $2.00 from Patron + ($0.06 + $0.35) Patreon Fee = $0.10 Patreon Fee + $1.90 to Creator

The new fees will take effect during the next billing cycle in January for all existing contributors.

According to Patreon, their contributors polled were happy to pay out knowing their creators will get more dosh. Unfortunately, this is likely not the opinion of everyone.

I appreciate all my patrons across all tiers. What will seem to be a meagre contribution by some, can be a lot to others. A dollar spent on Patreon contributions is a dollar less towards their own personal well-being.

Patreon should get their dues, they've earned it, but I believe that having contributions by generous patrons means that I, a creator, should bear the cost of this privilege, and not the other way round.

Please make adjustments to your finances if you feel you need to, as you can pull out of contributions any time you like, with no hard feelings. Happy Holidays.

Thought I would clarify my outlook has not changed for you but means I've cancelled one other pledge to make my total unchanged

Kinda why I was more comfortable with having monthly pledges.

This is more annoying for those who pledge per piece, the fee and the VAT I have to pay makes you think if you really want to spread your pledges or concentrate on a few.

Apple Senior

Given something like 25% of my contribution doesn't end up with you already, this is a bit of a kick in the teeth
