oh my god i wasn’t expecting to bawl to pen15 anytime soon

Linden!! (lu)

the scene between anna and her mom makes this episode one of my favorites. It is such a sweet moment that I think a lot of mothers and daughters experience together. I know I am biased and probably projecting but Curtis is a loser. He's trying to turn anna against her mom - he always says shes in "one of her moods". And the scene when he shows up AFTER the performance and clearly doesnt realize that Kathy did everything and bought flowers is so annoying to me.

Anna Tang

Another stellar episode where they manage to flesh out so many characters and relationships! Aside from the taboo and shame and confusion Gabe feels, we also get a glimpse that maybe his parents aren't the most open-minded or easy-going kind, (or at least that's how Gabe sees them,) which adds to the pressure. We get to see Maya having a super supportive and loving family, and we see her trying to pull away from that (which is a common occurrence where kids going through puberty seek independence from parents, a necessary and healthy stage for kids to go through, and that Anna does not get to because she is forced to mature soon). And part of it is also Maya being insecure and acting out because she feels ostracized for her ethnicity and looks, which again she brings up here. And then Anna having that lightbulb moment that she has biasedly taken her dad's side all this time because he's the more "easy-going, not as highstrung cool dad" and realizing how much hurt she has caused her mom. (It's so easy to latch onto one parent as a kid, and it's always usually the one who is more "forgiving") Both parents have their faults but they aren't entirely "bad parents" too, just the shift is jarring because we see it from Anna's POV. Just so, so well written all around!
