This show felt so viscerally devastating to me when it comes right down to its commitment to the DETAILS of living on the margins of poverty -- tracking every dollar down to the last cent, paying for the necessities, squeezing in something nonessential -- because of course every child deserves a toy -- the unimaginable torment of navigating government bureaucracy, the hunt for work, the hunt for affordable living, affordable childcare WHILE going to the work you need to live, and just all the various barriers to all the above. And on top of everything: the fallout an Ex's abuse, and dealing with the trauma and legalities of THAT. You can just feel the immense weight of circumstance in every moment.
Poor Alex and Maddy 🥺 Maid really went all out in showing the power of a mom persevering through it all.
