Here in the UK my girlfriend works at the largest hospital in our area - they purchased hundreds of new ventilators, converted the entire lower floor in to emergency respiratory treatment cubicles and brought dozens of nurses out of retirement. Two weeks ago they had 200 patients in the entire hospital, and less than a dozen of them with confirmed Corona. This disease has obviously been horrible for those who have suffered loss, but it just hasn't been the apocalyptic meltdown that we were lead to believe..

I hate this shit too, and I agree people like me in the middle class will get fucked in the long run from all of this. I’m also worried about my immediate family with preexisting conditions, but at the same time “we live in a society” so if the data really doesn’t support the idea shutdowns work, then that’s the case, I just don’t think we’ve had enough time to determine that. I'll try to be brief because I keep having the same argument with people over and over. From the outset, the lockdowns were never supposed to prevent the totality of corona deaths. We were told that repeatedly. All the lockdowns could do was "flatten the curve" so that excess deaths didn't occur from hospitals being overwhelmed. What made us think hospitals were going to be overwhelmed? Italy, and then subsequent doomsday models based on what happened in Italy. So we locked down. In NYC, where it is the worst in the country, the cases immediately started to slow. This was when I lost it. We were told the virus had a 5-7 day incubation period. Cases _should_not_ have leveled off right away. And the predicted peak, even with social distancing factored in, was no where near as bad as they said it would be. All the ventilators cuomo demanded weren't needed. USNS Comfort sailed away, the Javitz Center remained empty. Im sorry about your aunt man. That sucks. And on a personal level I'm sorry if me going off about the shutdowns have made you feel worse, I hope you can accept that "corona isn't real" is just hyperbole. The virus is absolutely real and a significant risk for older people or people with preexisting conditions. But saying things like "social distancing obviously did something" is like, fundamentally incorrect. I do see a correlation, but thats not causality, and even if it were, from the very experts that demanded we lock down, again, lockdowns CAN NOT PREVENT THE TOTALITY OF CORONA DEATHS, they can only slow the rate of infection until we have a vaccine. Well, there's no vaccine, no mass testing, and were now going to be forced to open back up because of these protests. Look, if there is a huge second wave because of the protests? Then I was wrong. I was absolutely wrong. And I'm not sure what I would have to apologize for other than possibly being insensitive to people about it, but my perspective is this: these lockdowns ALWAYS had a hefty price tag and unless you were born yesterday you should know 100% that that price will be paid for by the working and middle class. The stimulus bill was ready to fuckin go the second this happened. 40 Million people out of work. People that relied on their jobs for healthcare. If these things concern you, you should have to be dragged kicking and screaming to the conclusion that we need to destroy all these lives to prevent massive death. I didn't see that, from anybody. Everyone just sort of gave in, and said "okay if it's necessary then." Only people on the right voiced dissent and they did it for the wrong reasons.

Very funny like the past couple except when Nick goes on his anti-shutdown rants repeating the same shit without adding anything new. My aunt was 57 and died from corona last week so idk why people keep repeating “it only kills grandmas”, I see a lot of deaths with people aged 40+. Also Nick you’re clearly not a moron but I don’t see how you don’t see a correlation between shutdowns (less social interactions) and slowing the spread of a virus, I mean it obviously has worked hasn’t it? At this point do you just think everything should be open because it won’t kill you and the people who will die don’t matter to you?
