As a shadow clone with access to an inventory, I had an easy way to get all the money my original could need. Unfortunately, it wasn’t through legal means, and it might cause a war or two. That was fine; it was better to have poor enemies than rich ones, and when I was through, my new enemies would be broke. After Yukari’s stunt, I was soured on magicals, and after some research, I had a plan to beggar them. All I had to do was break into a goblin-run bank called Gringotts and rob the place.
I borrowed the Naruto manga and used it as a study resource to learn the transformation Jutsu. Gaining that really helped me out. From there, I took on the appearance of a British supermodel and conned some rich man on vacation to take me to England. But, the transformation Jutsu was such a utility cheat code in a world based on looks; it was completely overpowered.
He handed me my new passport and identity before we got on the plane. If I knew some illusions, either magical, qi, or spiritual, I would have the guy set me up with an allowance. But I wasn’t going to have him put me in his will before I killed him. So when we touched down, I planned on taking on another appearance and walking out.
“Luna chan, if you get scared, don’t be afraid to lean on me.” Mr. Henry said as the plane took off. It felt annoyingly slow even as it accelerated to 30,000ft. I glanced at a copy of the LA times where a superhero has appeared in the US, calling himself Captain Justice, the bulletproof man.
“Oh, are you interested in heroes? Do you want to know a secret? There is one on this plane. I’m a very important man, I work for Staff Pharmaceuticals, and we are dedicated to protecting the public. So you might find a hero on every plane waiting for a hijacker. We also have them pretending to be high schoolers on the off chance they can stop a school shooter. Pretty impressive, right,” The man said with a smile.
“Yes, very impressive,” I said, letting chakra alter my voice. “If you’ll excuse me, I need to go powder my nose,” I said and stood up before making my way to the bathroom. When the door closed, I looked at myself in the mirror.
A blue dress clung to my dark skin, making my crystal blue eyes even brighter. I took the appearance of a model I saw and had to admit she was a real looker. It was no wonder Mr. Henry was so taken by the appearance.
What were the odds that I couldn’t sense the hero onboard? I could even sense AFO at close range but not the hero. How long before AFO acquired the serum and took it for himself?
I created a shadow clone and dispelled it, refilling most of the chakra reserves I used to make the shadow clone. So long as I was careful, I could last a month, and after my latest clone, the original was updated. Summoning and dispelling a shadow clone daily will prevent a memory overload when I finally dispelled. It was an important safety feature to prevent the original’s brains from melting. Not that even that was permanent with a powerful spiritual body and the hogyoku.
Even if so-called heroes had the serum, it wouldn’t make them any better than fodder. At this point, even a thousand of them couldn’t beat me. But what if Tsukune had the serum. He might become more difficult to deal with if I didn’t have shadow clones.
I returned to my seat with a copy of the academy-level Kido book in my hand. He only raised an eyebrow when I sat down. “Stewardess, I need a drink and get one for my friend here.” He quickly started tossing back boos and started talking about his yacht.
“It's so beautiful. Have you ever been on the water at sunset? The sight is beyond imagining. I can’t tell you how much you would enjoy it. After I get home, I’ll set you up at a nice hotel, and we’ll go out when my wife is at her mother's.” I smiled and nodded.
Only 13 and a half more hours before I reached London airport. Afterward, I could take on a different disguise and get on with my mission. That’s when Mr. Henry suggested something I had not anticipated.
“Let’s go to the washroom. I want to try you out at 35,000 ft.” The man stood up and gave me an expectant look.
I decided to do the most unsexy thing I could think of; I spoke in my actual voice. “Sure, man, let's go. I haven’t popped anyone’s cherry this high before.” The man froze, opened his mouth, and closed it. Really how else could he react?
“You tricked me.” His face went from white to red and ended in purple. For a second, I thought he would stroke out, and that would be the end of him. But instead, he calmed down and looked over at a man with blond hair and cold grey eyes.
Mr. Henry snapped his fingers, and the man looked around. Other passengers were also staring. “Are you sure you want me to take care of this here? It might send the wrong message?”
“Take this thing to the bathroom, beat him to an inch of his life, and throw him into business class. Trash like him doesn’t belong here.” That’s when of all things, a Jehova’s witness stepped through the separating curtain. I couldn’t sense him either, and he handed out pamphlets on his way through first class.
One of the passengers stood up. “What’s the meaning of this?” The witness grabbed the man’s shoulder and forced him back in his seat.
“I’m guessing he isn’t one of your heroes Mr. Henry. How interesting is someone selling your company’s secrets, or are you not the owners of the serum.”
“Sir, you can’t go past the line.” A flight attendant said before the man took a step forward. He punched a hole through the steel door protecting the pilots.
“Devils wonder the streets and own entire swathes of Japan.” The air marshall in first class opened fire, but his bullets didn’t bother the man. He turned and smiled. “The elders of the watchtower have given me the armor of Jehovah; I don’t fear mortal weapons any longer. I am a warrior of Jehova.”
The plane shook, and the lights on the plane cut out. Oxygen masks fell down from the overhead, and a blinding light flashed across the left windows. I saw the mushroom as it formed and raised my hand to see if I could block it with my thumb. The top of the cloud was level with the plane, and I could feel the heat as rads blasted through the plane’s interior.
Tokyo, the capital of Japan, was gone. I watched as one of the brightest lights I’ve ever seen raced outward, ready to swallow us. This was the kickoff to what could be nuclear war. Some group of crazies managed to smuggle in a nuclear bomb and set it off in Tokyo. For the first time since WW2, mass death by an atomic bomb was unleashed. I felt completely blindsided; no threats or incidents were leading up to it that I could determine. Or perhaps I wasn’t paying enough attention.
“Do you see it, you devil worshipping sinners, we’ve dealt your devil-dealing country a blow it will never come back from. We aren’t done; tens of thousands of my brothers and sisters have already invaded. We will root out evil where it lives and extinguish it. ‘I am the alpha and omega,’ says our lord Jehova. ‘Who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.’” The Jehova witness yelled.
I got up and walked by Mr. Henry into the hallway between the seats and grabbed the man. “’ Go therefore and make disciples of all nation, baptizing them in the name of Jehova,’ we have done it. We have baptized them in fire and given them to Jehova.”
The windows exploded as flames ripped into the plane, burning passengers and melting the masks on their faces. I felt the plane tilt and gripped the ground with what little chakra control I could manage.
“Now is the time to pray to Jehova, ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ Can’t you see this is what’s best for everyone?”
I turned my head to the explosion to see hundreds of souls flowing who knows where. Not one seemed to be saved, only tormented by the sudden explosion. If souls could get PTSD, then theirs would surely have it. A second light appeared brighter than the explosion; I saw twelve wings within it.
A hand gripped my shoulder, and I saw that it was the man who was going to beat me within an inch of my life. “We must find a way off this plane; it's going to crash.” The man yelled in a broken voice.
I nodded my head and looked around. Those who weren’t superhuman were burned down to the bone. Gabriel’s light had been so magnificent I hadn’t noticed all the deaths. I wanted that angel, but I had a job to do. While I wouldn’t get her future clones or the original might. Clone continuity was strange.
“Do you think any of the controls are still usable?” I said as we both looked up at the captain’s cabin.
The witness giggled, and it was a disturbing sound. “And God said, ‘Behold, I am coming soon.’ The plane exploded.
Metal shrapnel, flaming plastic, and other debris exploded like a hand grenade as the plane’s fuel lines finally exploded. But, really, if there was one saving grace, it was the end of the Jehova witnesses’ rantings. I hit the water hard and continued sinking into the ocean’s depths. I drifted in the water before a hand gripped my shoulder and dragged me to the surface.
The blonde, grey-eyed man from before grabbed a hunk of floating debris and hauled me on it. His face was a reck but on the mend. The fire was hell on him, but he had so many monster traits that it would eventually heal. Troll healing didn’t like fire, but the other natures countered it quickly.
I noticed quickly we weren’t heading west towards China or south to Taiwan, the Philippines, or Australia, which meant the Kuroshiro current had us. “We’re heading north.” The blonde man said as he stared up at what constellations he could see through burning airplane fumes. Or maybe the power came from werewolf genetics. Wolves always knew where north was when taking a dump, after all.
“Do you know any Russian?” I asked.
“I know where is the toilet, and can I buy you a drink.” The man said.
We were going to have a hard time unless he could contact anyone. My plan to get rich quickly had been derailed mostly. It could take weeks to reach Russia by the current unless a boat spots us. Being spotted wouldn’t be a bad thing. We hadn’t done anything wrong, and they will see us as survivors of a nuclear attack. So really, we didn’t have anything to worry about.
That thought lasted until I saw a fin stick out of the water. “They probably won’t be alive much longer. We aren’t that far away from the blast, and I don’t think it's exactly clean. We probably have enough rads between us to kill several towns.” The man said.
I sighed and dropped my disguise. His eyes widened before he relaxed.
“So, you aren’t a woman or even a transwoman. It was a disguise to trick my employer.”
“Since we’re going to be in this together for a while, I thought it would be better to come clean. My name is Arakan, and I’m a high school student.” I said.
“Roger and I’m a test subject for Staff. What now?”
I shrugged as one of the sharks swam through the wreckage before swimming away. They couldn’t seem to find anything they liked.
“We get to Russia, and you tell your people what happened. Somehow a group of crazies got a bomb and detonated it in Tokyo because of devils.” I said.
Roger snorted. “This will only cause another string of nuclear weapon debate. I wonder who lost their nuke this time.”
