We hit 50 patrons!

Greetings! The magical goal of 50 patrons has been hit and that means the Tor's Emporium discord goes live. (You should have been sent a notification to join, but if not click the link). Thanks to everyone for helping us reach the goal. Hooray! Even if we dip down below it that number, no take-backsies... the discord will remain up in perpetuity (and unlike others I mean it). It is for patrons only... at least I'd like to keep it that way for the foreseeable future; more direct communication with those that are supporting me directly.

How should you use it?
Are you missing out if you don't?
What are my plans for it?

Whoah, hold your horses there! So, it's early days so the amount of "value" to be found there right this minute is minimal ;) — but over time as people contribute, ask questions and engage it will become a better resource for you. Also note that I'm GMT+2, so if I'm not instantly responding it could be because it's 3am my side of the world. ;)

What I'm personally interested in is hearing more from you; tell me what you are enjoying, want to see more of, want to see less of, provide feedback on things that could be a little better, or even things that you'd find super useful. Even share how you are using the things or improving on them. It will help me make better stuff for all of us, me included.

For instance, I don't grid my maps, but if I discovered that many of you would find that super useful, it's a relatively easy thing to include in my workflow.

The elephant in the room?

There's this big thing going down right now... the OGL 1.1. Yep it's scary and altogether horrible if true. It certainly sounds like it might be true, but we don't yet know if the language as reported in the leak will stay the same when officially announced. I don't even know if what WOTC/Hasbro are proposing is actually legally enforceable and even if yes it is, are they actually going to chase down every tiny creative person on the internet who's making maps for a 6 year old adventure book. So, for now... there's enough doubt that I'm going to continue on as is on the map creation and player handout creative front.

The only area we (Grimmash and I) are going to pause on, at least until something official is announced, are the Foundry modules. When we know if Foundry can continue to support 5e, we'll release those modules as normal. If not... well, we won't and will most likely have to remove the foundry modules already made. So, let's wait and see.

Ultimately, I support #OpenDND, it's a no brainer. If WOTC/Hasbro get their way and we cannot make things for D&D without ceding all rights, well then my group and I will move to a new system and Tor's Emporium's focus will reflect that. We're certainly not there yet... we really just need to wait and see how this all plays out.

I'll be really upfront with you all as early as possible if a drastic creative turn needs to be made. Let's hope that they cannot revoke the OGL1.0a license so we can continue to make their stuff better.

Again! Huge thanks for collectively getting us across the 50 people milestone. Woohoo.

yeah. not a good look... with a movie coming out, an active playtest, a new system, a new VTT to launch, $150m spent on a digital toolset they need to make money with, whilst strangling every other 3rd party app, tool, vtt, book, map, art, liveplay... et al... out of existence. if they don't want us to play with their toys, we'll just leave their house entirely and play down the street somewhere else.

WoTC, if the leak be genuine, seem to want to kill all the 3rd party activity that has sustained and enhanced 5e and prior. Its scary. My hope is that creators like Tor who have done so much to improve my TOA game are not stopped from creating whatever WoTC finally release. I fear the damage has been done though.

Good to know.
