EPYC TrueNAS Scale Build and VM Install

Between the power draw and cooling requirements of running my own server rack, it's time for some much needed consolidation, starting with virtualizing my TrueNAS and Proxmox servers into one massively overkill box.

Oh, and I'll be installing TrueNAS Scale, based on Debian Linux!

But first... What am I drinking???

A two-fer of disappointments unfortunately. Between the Plug and Play IPA from Matchless, to the KCBC Kung Fu Karaoke, there's just not a lot of good things I can say.

Glad to see TrueNAS Scale here. You've definitely been giving me ideas for my home lab, but my needs are of course lower than yours are, and as such I've been able to limit my power draw for my home lab rack to 300W at idle. I'm probably going to wait for TrueNAS Scale to mature a bit more before I try to swap my data over to it. Thanks for the video!

Great video, once again. And weirdly timely, as I'm about to build my first Proxmox server and virtualize TrueNAS on it. :) I'll be using an 8 core/16 thread AMD Ryzen 3700X. Thanks to finding a lot of used enterprise SAS2/6GB/s SSDs on sale, I've got ~6.4 TB of SSD storage to work with. I realize this is a bit different than the typical setup with spinning HDDs. I've been trying to figure out if I still need separate SSD caching, and how many cores/threads to give Proxmox. Do you have any advice for this type of configuration? I've done a lot of research and watched a lot of videos (including yours :) ), and having never built anything like this, I've learned a lot but also managed to confuse myself quite a bit. I was going to use your Proxmox/TrueNAS Combo Server video as a guide. Is that still a good place to start given my hardware? Thanks!
