2020-10-14 19:45:21 +0000 UTC(This is all from the official Tarkin novel) Actually it is canon that Tarkin did not know Palpatine was a Sith Lord before the Empire was created. Tarkin was simply a facist who supported strong, centralized leadership and sa Palpatine as the ideal guy. He was loyal to the Republic, and by extension loyal to Palpatine and the Empire. He just thought the Republic should be run differently in order to provide stability and order, which is why he supports Palpatine because he does what is necessary to maintain order. That being said, Tarkin suspects Palpatine is a Sith Lord now because Vader is a Sith and calls Palpatine master. But he doesn’t really care, he just sees the Sith as another religion like the Jedi were. He also suspects Vader is Anakin but doesn’t say anything. There is a part where Vader and Tarkin are on a mission and they split up, and Tarkin basically says “we did this at the Citadel and it didn’t work out well” and Vader just stares at him.
