Maul has always been a wild card for me. Popping up when I least expect him. He’s gone from Sith warmonger to a menace 😤.

Maul has fallen into madness before. Remember, when Savage found him, he was full blown mad. It took a little bit of time to get back to the Maul we used to know.
Now, he's been on his own for a while thus his seeming changing personality. Also, I'm pretty sure Maul was playing Ezra at the beginning as well. So, it was probably a bit of both there.
That's what I've always thought anyway. 😊

(Don't worry last comment) Speaking of what your sister said about Vader having multiple personalities, some real world psychologists have diagnosed the character with Dissociative Identity Disorder as he qualifies for enough of the criteria to have it. Interesting connection by your sister.

Malachor is actually from Star Wars Legends (hence Ahsoka's "there is always a truth in legends" line. It is the planet where the Jedi-Mandalorian wars come to an end where the Jedi commander Revan uses a superweapon to annihilate the Mandalorians. Malachor becomes ruined and haunted, much like the version we see here. This happened in the Knights of the Old Republic video game series, which is also the same game that inspiration for the Krayt Dragon storyline in the season 2 premiere of Mando is from.

The temple was one of many kyber crystal-powered superweapons the Sith built in ancient times. In a Clone Wars arc that was never finished before Disney canceled it, Yoda talked about these superweapons. It is such weapons that inspired Palpatine to build the Death Star. All the statues around the temple were actually the petrified bodies of the Jedi and Sith who died during the final battle when it was activated (the Jedi attack on the temple caused it to fire prematurely and it turned everyone on the battlefield to stone, and is why Malachor is off limits. Palpatine brought Maul here when he was young as part of his training.

That wasn't Talzin or Ventress in the temple, it was the ancient Sith Lord who built the temple. She was voiced by the same person as Ventress in Clone Wars, and is why she sounded so familiar.

When this episode came out, it was unknown whether or not Ahsoka had died while battling Vader. That question was left unanswered for a long time...but since you've seen Mando, which was made after Rebels ended, you know she's okay. You're lucky not having to worry like we did.

This finale is probably some of the best Star Wars content out there. The emotional weight of the Ahsoka and Vader scene. Honestly had me crying as a 14 year old when it came out:
