If you are going to write to anyone about being unhappy with the show, don't write George R.R. Martin, write to the show creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. GRRM's input wasn't used after season 6 and they started taking a lot of leeway despite his notes starting in season 5. George even championed for 10 seasons versus 8 but D&D said no.

2023-02-03 00:46:00 +0000 UTCso since the “three eyed raven” is one of my favorite characters in a song of ice and fire, i just wanted to make this comment. his real name is brynden rivers, and he is referred to sometimes as bloodraven. he was a bastard of aegon iv targaryen (aegon the unworthy) and his mother was a blackwood. the blackwoods are one of the only southern houses that believe in the old gods (like the northerners do, and it’s clear that they are magical in some way) and of course the targaryens have a good deal of fire magic associated with them. bloodraven has a mix of both ice magic and fire magic within them, and he is a very powerful greenseer. he used these powers when he was much younger to serve the realm/the targaryens, especially in the blackfyre rebellions. those wars started with daemon blackfyre (after him and all of aegon’s other bastards being legitimized) began a war to fight for the throne. bloodraven, despite being one of those legitimized bastards, fought staunchly against the blackfyre’s. he got sent to the wall after aegon v took the throne because he murdered a blackfyre that came to a great council to peacefully present his case for his claim to the iron throne. he travelled with maester aemon actually! he disappeared on a ranging shortly after becoming the lord commander on the nights watch and voila, we find him in the tree 100+ years old!

Remember in the lore, the First Men came over and tried messing with them (goddamn colonizers) but they eventually made peace and the First Men assimilated their religion. They started worshiping the weirwood trees, the ones with the faces. These are the Old Gods that we pray to for Stark salvation.
