2023-11-02 04:12:13 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite films. The shift in tone from comedy to drama is so clever and fits with how we're seeing everything through the eyes of a child. At the beginning of the movie it's heavily comedy with small moments of solemnity, and then as his worldview shifts and he sees more of the harsh reality, the tone of the movie becomes more serious and even the colorgrade shifts and becomes less colorful.

2023-10-13 07:08:18 +0000 UTCI love this movie! So happy you reacted to it. I just want to say that Jojo doesn't have a mental illness, the director stated that Hitler is Jojo's imaginary friend. Having an imaginary friend is common for young kids. Also, his mom did not teach him to go against Hitler's ideology because he is a kid, and kids will tell all your business. She felt the best way to keep Jojo and herself safe was to keep her own ideologies and activities to herself, I am guessing until he was old enough to be able to keep secrets ------ also the director is half jewish himself and played Hitler, he felt it would be fun that Hitler would roll over in his grave knowing a jewish person was playing him. The ridiculously fake looking blue contacts he wore were also part of the parody/disrespect towards Hitler.
