That is why they affect Harry more than his classmates because once they feed on the happiness only his horrors are left and he has dealt with more trauma than most kids his age. J.K. Rowling (the author of Harry Potter) dealt with severe depression in her life and wrote them to symbolize depression.

When Voldemort became in power and was searching for James and Lily, Peter them out and told Voldemort where they were. After doing that he was scared to be around anymore when Voldemort went down after he tried to kill Harry and it didn’t work so he turned into a rat, cut off his own finger so people would think that he was dead. the ministry of magic blamed serious for killing him and that’s why he was an Azkaban. So all this time Remus and serious both knew that serious was innocent, and that it was Peter the whole time, but they thought Peter was dead so there was nothing they could do to prove it. that is until Peter showed up on the map and Remus knew wow he is actually alive and here we are

Professor Remus Lupin(the dark arts teacher whos name also means wolf in latin which is how hermoine found out his secret) Sirius black, Peter and Harry's parents were all "friends." Peter betryed Harry's parents to Voldemort because he was over come by Voldemort dark power. Before they entered the house harry and everyone else thought Sirius was responsible for getting Harry's parents killed by Voldemort but Peter actually was and has been hiding for the past 12 years in the form of scampers. Harry realized there was more to the story when snape walked in and wanted more knowledge so he knocked out Snape to get sirius to talk. The dark arts techer and sirius then explained everything.
