How To Get Away With Murder 2x05 "Meet Bonnie" Full Reaction

Comments

Excellent breakdown, those nicknames though. Bonnie and Analise’s relationship is just one of the most complex relationships I’ve ever seen! But they both are complex people on their own so yeah them being in the mix together makes things chaotic. The sheer manipulation that these two people can pull off is insane! Can’t wait to see how this unfolds!

I've been binging your reactions to the show and I''m finally caught up πŸŽ‰ I forgot how much I loved and enjoyed this show 😩 (they lost me in the last couple seasons) but it's so interesting to hear your thoughts and theories

Dana (Dah-Nah)

This episode was a little stressful, huh. So many interweaving lies to the point that the truth doesn't seem real to some anymore, and the lies are so good that they almost feel like the truth. I just want to start off by saying that Bonnie's built different from the mere fact that she was hauling ass down them long steps in those heels without a stumble, shuffle, or a trip πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚... But I'll get back to Bonnie later... Keating 4 Orgy? Wes is so focused on Rebecca that he's missing out on an opportunity here lol. Could have called dibs on Michaela like everyone else πŸ˜‚. But honestly, Wes' obsession with Rebecca has carried on even after her death, that's he's oblivious to the fact that Asher's running amok, and that any moment, they could all essentially get locked up at any moment because of it, when he SHOULD be the most concerned considering he's literally the one who'd done the killing blow. I can see why and dragging. I doubt any of them truly care about what happened to Rebecca, especially not at the expense of their own lives and problems such as the fear of impending doom in the form of jail. To them, he's just dragging them in further and further into his "obsessions" that essentially got them all caught up in the first place. He I do think he really was wrong for not saying anything to Michaela, especially when he knew Levi was still seeing her after his warnings. He even kept Levi a secret from Nate, who was pissed when he found out. Can't expect people to have your back when you keep secrets that affect their lives. They work better as a team, but he's not really being a team player. I appreciate that Laurel, who usually sides with Wes, finally had to tell him to let it go. She's usually the type to hear him out. Perhaps if he didn't leave one of his only "trusted" allies in the dark, she'd be more understanding, even with Frank being in the picture, instead of teaming up with Rebecca's chaotic brother in secret. Wes even did his own weaving a lie within the truth. He admitted to Annaliese that he was upset at her for keeping the Asher secret from them Little did Wes know that he was actually being tested by Annaliese, not knowing she's already onto him, Levi, and Nate. Now she knows he doesn't trust her and blantantly lying in front of her face. And now she's confronting Nate with more believable lies. And the tricky thing about Annaliese, she mixes the lies with truth, it's even hard to figure out what is manipulation and what isn't, even when she seems like she's being genuine. Wes is trying to get ahead of Annaliese but she always seem to eventually catch up and out manuver. There's definitely an overall lack of communication and an abundance of lying with Murder Squad. I can understand the students' frustration with Annaliese constantly keeping secrets, especially knowing how she likes to operate. Their lives are essentially in her hands, someone who isn't even the most trustworthy in the room, and they have no of control of the situation at all (outside of just going to confess the crime that they're now in way too deep to do at this point). Annaliese doesn't give her kids any information, so they start freaking out (mainly Connor & Michaela) and/or acting out, to where she has to keep them in check, but I think honestly giving them at least some crumbs or at least give them some sense of control, even if it's just an allusion and to ease their paranoia. With that said, the Keating Kids should show some form of appreciation due to the fact they are NOT in jail, but they've haven't even been suspected by police. I'm not saying they SHOULD trust Annaliese to handle everything (as we saw in this episode and despite what she tells them, Annaliese DOESN'T have everything figured out all the time and even began to panic when she realized it). Perhaps that now that she told them what's going on with Asher and what Bonnie has done (eventhough Annaliese still weaved the lie within the truth as Bonnie was sacrificing herself for Annaliese, not the kids lol), maybe they'll show some respect towards the very people that are constantly helping them, especially Annaliese because she honestly didn't have to do ANYTHING that has done for them to keep them safe and out of jail, including throwing her own boyfriend to the wolves. I do appreciate the scenes where the kids are playfully giving each other a hard time and their mixed bag of personalities just ping ponging off of each other. It also lightens up the tension of the series even if it's in the midst of impending doom and possible jail time. They do need to start thinking about packet some sort of crime bag. Some gloves, disinfectant, bleach, masks etc. I'm just saying πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ. What's wild though is that K4 really tried to pull up and intimidate Bonnie, as she's viewed as the weak link of the The Big 3, not knowing Bonnie's caught herself a body, and she did it deliberately, by herself, and without orders from anyone else. Haven't they learned? It's always the quite ones... I would like to take a moment to appreciate the judge in the Hapstall case for actually being smart. Her timing was unfortunate considering it blew up in Annaliese's face, but Annaliese tends to get away with a lot of her shennaigans and here's a judge who does seem to run her courtroom respectfully and fairly, even despite her personal feelings (reason #27 why I couldn't/shouldn't be a judge lol). Although it'll make OUR job more difficult, it should mean that ADA Sinclair will too possibly struggle to pull her own shennigans. Or perhaps it'll be a test of who can be more sneaky with theirs? I did feel really bad for the Hapstall siblings (I don't know why my brain want to automatically refer to them as The Hapstall Twins when they are clearly not twins πŸ€¦πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ). I think we all have that one relative when loved when we were young only to grow up and find out that person is really fake of some sorts. To be a minority adopted into and grow up in a white family, only to find out that your close, white relative who you thought loved and accepted you as their own is actually a whole racist is wild. Then to find out that her despite her blantant, racial bias and the clear differences in both of her statements, that her "official" one would still be allowed to be used against you is devastating. Or maybe they already knew πŸ€”? Did they kill their parents? Did they kill their aunt? Or are they simply being framed? Someone needs to slide Oliver a check or two. The man out here risking it all, even hacking into the police all willy nilly to help them win cases. And Connor needs to stop dropping random, vague, life bombs on poor Ollie like that. He could have at least waited until Michaela wasn't there as it seemed Oliver probably couldn't react the way he truly wanted to, which saved Connor from further questioning, but they would have been deserved questions a partner should rightfully ask considering he just told him he was probably going to jail with no real explanation, and Oliver was kinda put in a position to just accept it (for the time being at least)due to the company. Perhaps the "I love you" softened the blow, but it probably also just made Oliver worry even more. So, back when this show was airing, some of the characters earned some nicknames by certain parts of the fandom (some names I probably won't mention lol). Frank in season 1 got "White Jidenna" aka Classic Man. Annaliese got "AK"(-47). After Bonnie casually bodied Rebecca, she got dubbed "Bonnie Shmurda" (my personal favorite lol). Caleb (the Hapstall case) was nicknamed Rainbow Eyes. I think the Hapstall Siblings were refered to as the Incest Twins (I guess I figured out where I got the "twin" thing from lol). Wes had many nicknames (mostly due to Alfred Enoch's seemingly unusually long neck lol), but one of the non-neck ones I liked was "Baby Taimak" (if you've never seen "Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon", then think of this as me throwing it in y'alls movie reaction request bucket πŸ˜‚). Random Fun Fact: Viola Davis actually threw her back out during a sex scene with Billy Brown (Nate) in season 1 (most likely the alibi wall sex in 1x9). I guess it's time to talk about Bonnie. That woman can lie, can't she? It lowkey reminded me of those videos when Karens would call the police on someone, crying at the drop a hat and just lying through their teeth. She lied so well, she almost made me believe her story and I actually saw what happened lol. Her relationship with Asher is certainly an interesting one. Who would have thought in the beginning of season 1 that those two would exchanging "I love you" to each other in season 2(was Bonnie's real or manipulation gone wrong?). Granted, it's more tragic than the celebration of love that those words usually express, but there they are. And whether Bonnie's faking the feelings or not, we've only really seen this emotional intensity from a normally stoic Bonnie with Annaliese (a bit with Frankslightly with Sam, a The Annaliese and Bonnie relationship continues to be the most interesting though. In the beginning of the episode, Annaliese kinda just obliterates Bonnie with, "Stop. Nothing you say will make me not hate you right now". The bad part is, as casually and frequently we've seen Annaliese just verbally Bonnie, she's probably heard worse from her. Hell, the reason why those kids thought they could attack Bonnie the way they did is probably BECAUSE they've seen Annaliese casually do it. And yet, Bonnie just full blown sacrifices herself for Annaliese without a second thought. Wild, isn't it? Still, Annaliese did jump in to defend Bonnie against K4 and using her sacrifice, the very thing she was berating Bonnie for, as something Bonnie should be treated with respect for doing. We saw episodes prior where Annaliese is drowning herself with alcohol, revealing feelings of guilt over gow she ruined people, especially Bonnie, only for Bonnie, who was hurt by the declaration, to claim that Annaliese SAVED her. And yet, Annaliese continues to do it, and Bonnie continues to accept it. When Bonnie is in the car crying to Annaliese on the phone, Annaliese hears the words she's been saying to Bonnie for who knows how long being said back to her. "I tried so hard, but you were right. I can't do anything myself... He's going to testify. I'm was so stupid. I'm always so stupid, Annaliese. So, you just need to blame it on me. Just blame it on me. I deserve this. You don't deserve any of this. So, just- just put it me and I'll take it." OOF Even after all of that berating and condescending, verbal abuse Annaliese has constantly dished out to Bonnie, Bonnie is still willing to go to jail to protect Annaliese. And even as she's broken down into an absolute mess of tears, knowing that the feelings she believed Asher feels o for her would save her has failed like Annaliese said it would, she's not even saying Annaliese own words to her out of spite. If anything, if shows how much she takes Annaliese's words to heart. She's saying these words because she genuinely believes them. She's willingly to accept whatever fate she gets, even if it means going to prison for a murder she did not commit. This is the same woman who's been moving as if she didn't just give Rebecca the plastic bag treatment, after delivering speech of the plot twist, suprise antagonist of a psychological thriller movie, a few months prior. Based on her behavior, if the show never told us, we'd wouldn't have a clue that she commited murder. Even in the flashfoward, we see moving in a calmly rush demeanor, swiftly as if she's not covered in blood just beneath her suit jacket. Yet, here she is bawling her eyes out in this car to Annaliese, asking her to put everything on her. This is probably the most emotionally vulnerable we've seen Bonnie so far and she's looks broken. The closest scene we've seen Bonnie like this is probably back to the Bonnie/Annaliese scene in season 1, where Bonnie was on her knees with her head in Annaliese's lap, crying, confessing to Annaliese of Sam's disloyalty and immorality, almost like she was chose her loyalty to Annaliese over Sam, only for Annaliese to hit her back with, "You're Fired". That was probably the most emotionally vulnerable we'd seen Bonnie until this moment on the phone with Annaliese and it's always so heartbreaking, jarringto see because Bonnie is such a normally stoic character What does Annaliese do? Instead of doing what Bonnie asked, she goes in deep and dark to save Bonnie. Is that even Bonnie? If not Bonnie, then who was that? How does Annaliese have this video? We've seen Annaliese expertly manuever lies as if they were truths many times before. What should you trust? Or was that really Bonnie on that tape? If it was, would ot make Bonnie's claim more understandable in eyes (even it IS a lie). Would it even work to male Asher change his mind? That's a HEAVY secret to drop. But whether that tape was really Bonnie or not, Annaliese is chosing to save Bonnie. Is it to cover herself (fear Bonnie might "wake up" to the toxic nature of her relationship with Annaliese and change her mind)? Guilt? Maybe Annaliese genuinely cares about Bonnie? Or perhaps feels she needs Bonnie in her corner to use for something? So many questions got opened up with just this one episode, let alone this one scene... In the end, we're in the 3 week time-frame where we find out, "Who shot Annaliese?", yet, we're still just as confused, and the potential suspects just keep getting longer and longer as the mystery continues...
