How To Get Away With Murder 2x07 "I Want You To Die" Full Reaction

Amazing analytical breakdown as always Ash Lee. The Bonnie & Annalise relationship is one I even have trouble finding words for! Laurel is definitely one of my favorites, I love how intuitive and creative she can be, I love her bluntness, and her ability to read people. I feel like I relate to her in a sense of being an excellent people reader/observer. I hope Connor has a serious conversation with Oliver to keep him away from the house because that is just not what Oliver wants 😭 he just doesn’t know it yet

Oh 🤣

Big Bro & Lil Sis Reacts

I'm screaming 😭 Laurel did not bump into the same guy fjdks

Dana (Dah-Nah)

This episode has one of my personal favorite scenes, but I'll get to that later. Sidenote: I type this on my phone and didn't really proof read it, so apologize for any confusing misspellings, eeirf grammar, or any possibly random, uncompleted sentences lol. I did randomly notice after I finished typing all of this that I was misspelling Annalise's name incorrectly like Anneliese van Der Pol (Chelsea from That's So Raven), and went back to fix all of them as if anyone but my would notice or care. So there's that 🤦🏾‍♀️ lol... I'll start off with Ms Laurel Castillo. I have to admit, when I first watched season 1, I wasn't really a fan of Laurel. The whole good girl trying to stay away from the bad boy and ends up with a good guy, only to cheat and end up with the bad boy trope was honestly uninspiring to me. She was a smart girl making dumb man choices in my eyes. It wasn't until season 2 started where I really truly appreciated Laurel outside of her relationship with Frank. In season 1, Frank & Bonnie gave the Keating 5 Nicknames: The Puppy (Wes) Prom Queen (Michaela), Pretty Boy (Connor), Doucheface (Asher), and The Wallflower (Laurel). She's always watching, catching details that others miss, whether it's about a case, or their own guilt ridden, blood-stained shennanigans. And despite being incredibly nosey, she operated things involving with the group, as well as their cases, in a lowkey, but intelligent way. She doesn't fly off the handle the way Michaela & Connor does. She doesn't let her emotions lead her the way Wes does. She does a lot of her it through personal connection with each person. Take Bonnie out for drinks. Sneak off with Frank and be kinda, well, frank when she asks him very direct questions, or says something to see how he responds and take information with what he does or doesn't say to her. She even takes the time to take Wes to the side to talk to him whenever she notices something up with him. Annalise did say it was the quite one you have to watch (Wes & Laurel). She was the calm, clear headed one during Sam-gate, and unlike Wes, she didn't have the comfort of knowing when they executed their plan. In fact, she was the one who came up with the different ideas throughout the night, from potentially getting Asher involved in the crime scene to make it 5 against 1 when he came to the house, to the idea on how to casually get the trophy back into the house in order for the murder weapon to hide in plain sight through Frank. Withoyt Laurel telling Wes about Michaela & Connor going the police, he wouldn't have been able to get Annalise to stop them and reveal her knowing the truth, which allowed them to step back and put their trust into Annalise in protecting them. She was the only one who noticed, outside of Annaliese, that Wes kept randomly disappearing. She's watching what everyone else is doing and when something looks off, she tends to notice. She won't necessarily say anything right away, but she's always watching. By the time we got to this episode, Laurel had surprisingly became my favorite K5 member. And probably the most clutch player on the team (in regards to the K5, eapecially murder squad). So, when Annalise was getting into Laurel so hard this episode, it actually bothered me, because she really had been saving the team (and some of her cases) time and time again, and it's mostly had been going unnoticed or seemingly unappreciated. Out of all of the Keating Kids, she does seem to acknowledge Laurel the least, even referred to Laurel as "Frank's Girl" once back in season 1, but Laurel still seemed to always come through. So, although she doesn't seem to do the things she does to get Annalise approval, she at least wants Annalise's respect, and when Annalise finally acknowledge, she's gets hit with verbal attacks in front of everyone what seems to come out of nowhere. Laurel thinks it's because of her relationship with Frank. Annalise seems to want to make sure Laurel stays sharp and not get too caught up with Frank, especially not on the job. Laurel, the wallflower, later on actually spoke up for herself to Annalise(almost like she did when Annalise accussed her of showing off in front of the class for the second time). To go from barely getting acknowledged by Annalise, to suddenly getting aggressive, negative attention had to be very jarring for Laurel. It seemed to have relit a fire under Laurel to prove herself as a worthy student and future lawyer. She once again solved the case and showed off her undercover skills with a creative plan. She knows her laws and she's good at coming up with ideas. But after she came through, once again saving the day, she didn't get the positive acknowledgement she'd hope. She just went back to being ignored. So, Laurel finally spoke up. In return, Annalise probably gave Laurel one of the best signs of respect she could probably ever give to one of her students, "Me not paying attention to you is the best compliment you can ever get, because that means I don't have to worry about you". Laurel's her secret star player, and that acknowledgement of respect created a sense of trust. Laurel's greatest skillset, especially regarding keeping the group "safe" is not only being highly observant, but knowing when to yell "fire". Well, not necessarily yell, but more of a sneaky whisper, and she knows who she needs to whisper it to. She proves it once again when they are on the stakeout for the undercover date when she sneaks off to call and alert Annalise what was happening, so it could get called off. If Annalise has answered her phone earlier, they might be able to get back to Connor's place in time to intercept their suspect who's now alone with Oliver. While, Laurel was struggling to get Annalise's approval, Oliver not only got Annalise's respect, but now he's trying to earn his stripes, not understanding the full extent of what kind of "excitement" the Keating Squad can often find themselves in. The last thing Connor wants is Oliver getting dragged into the chaos that is become their lives. He feels like Oliver is the only thing that's keeping him remotely sane. The only thing sane in his currently insane life. He doesn't want him danger. He also probably feels that if Oliver were to ever find out what happened, or somehow got caught up in something, it would ruined Oliver, taint the relationship, Cinnor would feel so muvh guilt a. Oliver's already been risking himself by using his computer skills, simply because Connor asks him to. Hell, that's literally how their relationship began in the first place in the bery first episode. Now, it's escalating and Oliver's not heeding Conmor's words. Frank and and Annalise hvbe now aclnowledged his existence. They've made him aware that they're aware of what he's been doing for them and they showimg him a sense of respect and gratitude. He's getting validated for his efforts. Frank even gave him probably a nice, little, self esteem boost by saying telling him he'd smash Oliver over smashing Connor (😆). Oliver's even being proactive in his helping hands in criminal activities. He's making friends and it feels like such an exciting experience. Connor's two worlds with Oliver and his job/life regarding Annalise have collided since the beginning of this series. Now, it's gotten heavily entangled. And he has no one on his side to try and really stop Oliver, so he gets stuck agreeing to their dangerous plan in order to keep Oliver safe. (Luckily Laurel seemed to have issue with the safety of the situation that allowed her to have it intervene). Problem now Is that trouble has now seemed to caught up with Oliver (him getting Asher's terrible rap song from that video they found stuck in his head as he's singing it while he's coming home with groceries is amusing lol). Frank getting grouped with the immature kids being scolded by a grumpy Bonnie (then later by Annalise) is honestly hilarious. Annalise's right-hand woman & left-hand man have their own close dynamic, but their personalities are quite different 😄. EVE 🤗. I think she might be my 3rd/4th favorite character (there's a character that hasn't been introduced that's interchangeable for me in ranking). She's a great lawyer. When she Michaela said Eve was a death row attorney and founded an exoneration group, so she knows what she's doing. She even clock Wes immediately as Annalise's court spy lol. I mean, Annalise literally trusted her to get Nate off for a murder that Annalise framed him for, is a wild concept. Actually, this whole kinda love triangle is kinda funny. Annalise convinced her ex-girlfriend, who's heart she broke 20 years ago, to represent her sidedude for the murder of Sam, the married husband Annalise left Eve for, after Annalise framed Nate for of it. Annalise and Eve's feelings done re-flamed, while Annalise seems to also deeply care for Nate. Now, Eve is here to save Nate again at Annalise's request. The scene of Nate and Eve in the car together always amused me lol. They seemed to have developed a level of trust and respect, that Nate just casually opens the door for. He already know about Annalise and Eve having some sort of intimate relationship from spying the last time Eve was in town. Now there's some just casual, sorta mutual understanding about it. They're even worming together in concocting secrets plans together in his case lol. While Eve is feeling the fuzzy feelings for Annalise, Nate is in state of hating her. I imagine once.upon a time, Eve probably hated her too, so she probably knows the feeling. I wonder if it's weird to see them two get along so well. The whole situation is just when when you lay it out lol. So, Annalise had Wes spy on Nate's case for her since she attend herself. She also wanted to remove him from knowing sensitivity of dealing with someone who's taking due to his mother's death. Eve probably already knew Annalise was gonna send someone to report back to her on the case. Maybe she recognized him from the brief time the student saw Eve when she first came to Annalise's house. Or maybe she really good at picking things up. I love the way Eve handled Annalise regarding Nate's case. You can tell Annalise is the type hates no having some control over stuff, and simply forces her to keep her hand off the wheel. She doesn't clue Annalise. Nate knew the plan and that was all Annalise needed to know. It's Eve's case and she's gonna do it the way she does it without interference. She genuinely does seem to know Annalise better than anyone we've met so far. Annalise has let herself be emptionally open with Eve. Since confessing about protecting Sam's killer, Annalise has also been very honesty, not really keeping secrets from her .she even confesses to her that Wes is the one who killed Wes and that's who she's been protecting this whole time. Eve: "He's the one you're protecting, right?" Annailse: "I don't want to talk about it." Eve: "I wouldn't either. It doesn't make any sense. All this craziness to protect some student?" Annalise: "He's not just some student. It's him." Eve: "No...You are a very good person." Annalise: "No. I'm not." Eve: "Fine, you're not. But I still get to think so." Moving to Paris in a flat with a nice view on Sam sounds like a dream though 😄. Eventhough the fantasy sounds nice, they both know and understand that Annalise is not in a place to give Eve what she needs from a more permanent relationship. So, Wes has been dealing with a lot of heavy emotional stuff lately. The thing about Wes is that, is he going crazy? Or is he simply getting gaslit to hell? Wes is honestly a character that I often had conflicted feelings on, especially the first go around watching this. He stresses me out, puts me on edge, but he's not really wrong. And Alfred is doing amazing as this character because if we look at where we started with this character in that first episode, and to see him slowly change, or enhanced so to speak, it's flows very well and hasn't felt out of character even despite the changes. From the the first episode, he's caught Annalise's attention. From being singled out in the very first class, to accidentally getting her meow mix munched on by Nate, leading to him getting specially chosen in K5. A lot of his characteristics hasn't really changed , but as his energy has evolved over time. He went from optomistic, to calm, to disappointed, to cold, and now aggressive(and with Annalise confronting him last episode (she was wrong for bringing up his mother like that and it really seemed to trigger him), it's starting to feel a bit emotionally unhigned. He's seemed to always have had this sense of moral justice, expect now instead it being intertwined with optimism, it's feeling cold, and now aggressive. And maybe he's always had this obessession with Rebecca (he even seemed to genuinely believe she was innocent initially), and maybe he has started to become mentally unwell. But he's really wrong. Annalise DOES know what happened to Rebecca. Frank even covered it up and keeping him on a wild goose chase. What he doesn't know WHO killed Rebecca and even he's aware that he doesn't know the details of what exactly happened. It has yet to cross his mind that wildcard Bonnie of all people is the one who did it, even after falsely confessing to a killing that he KNOWS she didn't commit (another testament to how unassuming Bonnie is percieved as a person, as well as how seemingly unchanged Bonnie seems to be since killing Rebecca, and Wes is VERY observant person). Wes can feel very conflcting. He bases his actions on his feeling and what he morally feels is right, while some may feel he's being selfless (he genuinely believes Rebecca was not just killed, but specifically murdered, and she was, and he's dedicating his time into solving it), he may also be viewed as selfish from a certain perspectives (sure his feelings are right, but what if he wasn't, and his behavior doesn't just affect him, it's certainly affects his fellow classmates, hence their antagonistic feelings him and the whole situation). Alfred is doing great at portraying Wes as this emotionally intense character. What else incredible intense but in a different way? Bonnie. I was actually waiting on this reaction. As my favorite character in the series, the scene with Annalise(my VERY close second favorite character) and Bonnie are not one of favorite of theirs together, but also individually as character. I'll get to that later. First we gotta start with Bonnie and Asher. It's a very uncomfortable discussion but it's VERY common scenario. Someone gets sexually assaulted at a party and someone who isn't involved in the assault knows what happened, but doesn't say anything or do something, and the victim doesn't get justice. Even if you, it was very common. It brings up the question of morality. Is someone knows someone else who's done something wrong, is it ever okay to not speak out against them? It's some that whether it's a coworker stealing office supplies, or a friend who's cheating on their significant other. And sometimes, people are oblivious to how certain wrongdoings can even if it's minor. Some live in an out of sigh, out of mind mindset. Asher may genuinely feel guilty, but like Bonnie said, he hasn't done anything about it. He hasn't done anything to help that woman Tiffany. Her life has changed forever while he's free to continue living his as the goofy, funny guy, when he had the power to possibly get that woman some justice and maybe some sense of peace. All he had to do was speak out for her and he didn't. The tricky thing is, the question of morally, speaking up, and taking accountability can honestly apply to every single person in that house. "This episode has been less stressful and I'm so appreciative." My mind immediately said, "You spoke a second too soon", just as Bonnie said, "Hi" 😬😆. So the episode as the episode comes to an end, Annalise comes home all smiling after getting all sapphic with Eve, and BOOM. A very and very pissed off Bonnie waiting on her in the darkness of her office/home (Annalise might want to rethink giving Bonnie free access to her home to basically come and go as she pleases like that 👀). So, a couple episodes back, Annalise told (well, more so showed) Asher about Bonnie's being sexually assaulted by her own father to convince him to not testify and protect Bonnie. It's a very dark trauma of Bonnie's that Annalise exposed to her very recent ex-boyfriend that she's had intimate/romantic feelings for. Now he know, and worse, he heard it from someone else other than herself. But I think what made it even worse for Bonnie is that Annalise didn't tell Bonnie she did it. She had Bonnie believing that she convinced Asher to cover up what she did, instead of being honest about it. The one time we witness Annalise give Bonnie praise in the previous episode, and it was to help feed the lie she told her. And Bonnie's been interacting with her ex, who she's even recently found out about his indirect involvement about his own sexual assault case troubles, while she was completely unaware of his knowledgement of probably her most traumatic secret, and it was someone she loved and trusted who exposed it. And this is where Annalise's treatment of Bonnie comes to bite her in the ass. Annaliese. The most likely years of verbally beating Bonnie down has reached it's breaking point, to the point that what Annalise views as saving and protecting Bonnie, Bonnie sees as it as another thing to tear her down and feels she used her sexual abuse to do it. She saw Asher as "the one good thing" she had, and in her eyes, Annaliese tainted it, long before Sinclair did with exposing Asher's own secret, and she didn't even know it. To her, Asher will now and forever see her through a certain lens that views her as a sexual assault. It's most likely why some victims don't come forward because they don't want to be constantly seen as that by everyone. Bonnie did seem prepared to take them fall when things got really grim if it meant protecting Annalise. There probably ARE some sexual assault victims who probably WOULD rather go to jail than to have that trauma brought to light, especially to have said trauma they're trying to move away from it. Even moreso when it's brought up unexpectantly when they aren't prepared to deal with it. It's most likely a VERY heavy, hence why there often trigger warnings about it within discussion in today's media. Hence Bonnie finding out that not only does Asher know about her abuse, but that Annaliese was the one who exposed it, is very triggering for Bonnie. Bonnie even mentioned to Asher that Tiffany wouldn't want to have that trauma of that incident drugged back up and exposed all, especially after all, and probably not out of the blue when she probably trying to get away from said trauma. She was projecting, but she probably wasn't wrong. To Bonnie, the person she has shown her loyalty to the most and seems to love the most has betrayed her in the worst way. It's very obvious that Annalise and Bonnie have a VERY complex relationship. I do think the two of them really do love and care for each other, but it is very toxic, and they show that love in what can be viewed in a very twisted way. They both seem to know about each other's darkest secrets, so they know each other very well, despite the toxicness of it. Annalise knew about Bonnie's sexual abuse, and based on the conversation between the two of them in that scene, Bonnie is aware of Annalise's childhood sexual abuse from her uncle as well. Just like Bonnie, I doubt it's something that Annalise, so the fact that feels like it says a lot. I can honestly say that I have never been able to find a single word that I could define their relationship as. I always say the only way I can describe it is simply a question mark. If you've ever in series True Blood, I often compare it to they way they describe the bond between a vampire and the vampire they create(Maker/progeny) can be so many complicated things mixed into one, that it's its own specific thing. I, too questioned if there's was potentially romantic feelings involved, even back in season 1 when it alluded to Bonnie having feelings for Sam, and wondered if it was actually for Annalise she had romantic feelings for, to the point I thought Bonnie going to confess them to Annalise when told her about Sam before Annalise fired her the most we'd seen Bonnie be emotionally vulnerable until now (if it is romantic, aould that even be a love square at this point? Maybe more like some love tripod stand of sorts between Annalise and Eve, Nate, & Bonnie lol). There's this air of mystery, it feels hard to place a label for what their relationship because the more we see and learn about it, the more complicated it feels. I do view their dynamic as presenting two different negative trajectories that can occur with abuse victims. You have one victim who has taken the pain from their trauma and now, in a sense, (verbally) abuses other people, and you have another victim who has gone years of accepting the (verbal) abuse, probably because the pain of abuse from people she love is what she's used to. They cycle of abuse continues on, but in different ways. It's kind of a like two disturbing puzzle pieces that somehow connected in a very disturbing way. Bonnie was very emotionally intense in this scene. We seen Annalie snap on Bonnie countless times, and we've seen Bonnie take it, and even defend Annalise when Annalise told her that she ruined Bonnie. This is the first time we've seen Bonnie snap on Annalise, from screaming at her (we haven't actually seen Bonnie raise her voice that often as she tends to keep her tone very low and even. In fact, she seems to hate yelling considering her response about not wanting to have to yell at K5 like Annalise for them to do their job). But this seems to be the straw that broke the camel's back, and it happened to be something that Annilese did to save her. Bonnie: "You knew how much this would hurt me, out of everyone you knew. But you did it because you wanted to. You don't know how to love anyone. I don't know how to love anyone." Annalise: "When you go back to that fancy apartment and you're rolling around in bed with that 25-year-old boy and you're not hanging from a bedsheet behind some metal bars, then you tell me that I don't love you." Bonnie: "I want you to die. That's what I want. That it was you they killed in this house, not Sam. Because he'd have never done this to me." OOF! Amazing acting from both Viola Davis and Liza Weil. As for the flashforward, Connor seems fed up and not trying to get involved. Michaela tries to go after him. The quiet, sneaky duo overhears them and Wes, holding a gun, decides to try and stop them. Just as Connor refuses to stick around, prosecutor Emily Sinclair's body falls from the sky. As we look up to the roof, it seems that Bonnie Shmurda strikes again 😬. We we know that Annlise has been shot and the list of suspects just seems to keep getting longer and longer each episode... On a hilarious note. They actually released the music video of Asher's college rap song, "Bye Felica" 🤦🏾‍♀️ (it used to be on YouTube, but I think it got block, but most likely on the season DVD special features) and it's just as ridiculously bad as you'd expect this young, rich, very privileged, college white guy to make a house party rap video be like 😆...
