I think the reason for for the Focus on Vulcan view Mind Melds and Danoblian Polygamy(having multiple spouses) appeared at the same time is because of the American view towards Polygamy, for the longest time its been a felony because of the small group of Radical Mormons that still believe in it. Same with Mind Melds people viewed it as a similar "disgusting act" and thought that those people shouldnt exist. As more well known example think of the old Christian view towards Gay people.
