The Story of Aeroflot Flight 593
Added 2021-04-20 10:00:03 +0000 UTCA long time ago (I was less than 10 years old at the time) I was invited up to the cockpit during a flight on a British Airways plane. I don't remember much about it, other than how relaxed the pilots were. It wasn't a big deal, back then - just a little something to make a long flight more fun.
Of course, that kind of thing doesn't happen anymore... although during my research for this video I came across a few stories of pilots bending the rules for friends and celebrities.
Here's one where a pilot allowed an attendant-in-training to sit in the co-pilot's seat with some refreshments. And here's one where a pilot on a private flight allowed a celebrity to sit in one of the pilot's chairs and put his hands on the controls. In both cases, at least, the pilots involved are no longer flying.

I’m already not a fan of flying because I have bad vertigo. But it nerve wreaking to think about how often we put our lives in someone else’s hands even when they are complete strangers. I’d hope pilots would take that trust seriously and not play with people’s lives. It’s sad that this happened and it must have been horrifying for those involved.
