The Gothenburg Discothèque Disaster
Added 2022-03-08 11:15:00 +0000 UTCThis was another story where being able to virtually visit the location where events took place was incredibly helpful in the course of telling the story. Here's a Google Street View close to the place where the blaze began.
By looking around you can see the memorial to those who lost their lives, and take a look at the building itself. You can also view imagery from years gone by, and see how the design of the building has changed over the years - including much bigger windows on the upper floor.
What struck me about this is just how ordinary the place looks - were it not for the memorial, there'd be no sign that anything quite as terrible as the fire had taken place there. It makes me wonder if the current tenants of the building are aware of its history!

2022-03-12 09:11:34 +0000 UTCIt reminds me of some of the "diss" murders you sometimes see, where someone is killed over a tiny, insignificant slight. Absolutely pointless... and yet it happens all too often.
