The Pemberton Mill Collapse
Added 2024-02-20 11:15:00 +0000 UTCWhile researching this video I spent quite a long time trying to determine what the new Pemberton Mill building is used for today. Other mills in the area have been converted into apartment buildings, or are used for other industrial activities.
But the Pemberton Mill itself is unlabelled on Google Maps, and even when you look at it from Street View there are few clues to its current usage. It doesn’t look abandoned, as all the windows and doors appear to be in good repair… but it certainly doesn’t look inhabited either.
After going down quite a long rabbit hole, I found a report from a local that it’s now used for “secure storage”, whatever that might be. I wonder if anyone reading this is from Lawrence – and if they have any idea what the fate of the building is now?

Some of the worst stories, for me, were the ones where they were very close to being rescued. To think how relieved they must have been at rescue being imminent... only to realise that the fire would get to them first
