AEW crosses 60K mark paid for Wembley Stadium show (and other notes)

Yesterday on Twitter, Tony Khan announced they crossed the 60K mark ($7.7 million dollar gate) for the ALL IN show at Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

I was finally able to access the ticket map yesterday. One of the big disadvantages of getting it this late is not seeing how sections were opened; some that appear to be fully opened could be missing rows, etc.

Full transparency here: I didn't post a number yesterday because my estimate seemed too high. I saw a few coders out there come up with their own estimates and they all came well above Tony's number. In the past, I've been burned by trying to post a number too soon. I've told many this but acquiring the various counts available to us through code is the easy part, figuring out a good estimate is 90% of the work and it takes time to sort out.

I'm going to look at the map again (I spent a lot of time on it yesterday) and ask a few questions before I post my own estimates. My thought is comps were distributed and NOT included in Tony's counts (if he included them, it would drive the average ticket price down and thus look weaker in inevitable comparisons). Had he not included a dollar figure, I think we might've seen a higher number from him (which included any comps). One thing we learned from a question we posed before these presales is would they price for profit or for a big attendance number and they figured out a way to do both as they will be smashing their gate record by a ton while putting a ton of people in the stadium.

There's a lot of interesting banter on Twitter about how fast these sold, could WWE do the same thing and so forth. Some of that dialogue takes away from the incredible accomplishment here for a company this young. No doubt this will be a special atmosphere and moment in time for the company come August 27th.

The last available count I grabbed was 9,392. They opened up the rest of the stadium yesterday (the upper decks behind the hard cam area are all partially opened along with some 200 level sections). If you're curious where I'm at, I have them around 70K+ distributed. Just to repeat, that doesn't mean 70K sold; it's just where I landed at this moment when combing through the map. When I asked readers about several sections that I questioned (if opened), almost every section received responses (which means it's hard to rule out some sections I thought for sure weren't yet opened). I'll be working on this over the next few days and hopefully have an update soon!

Update: I should've worded that last part better. I'm seeing reports being spread around that I'm reporting 70K sold. They haven't sold 70K. The minute they do, I'm sure Tony Khan will tweet it out. I mentioned the 70K figure as where I have them at the moment but what I failed to mention was I don't believe this is the distributed count. They definitely didn't comp 10,000 tickets (after selling as many as they did). This is the challenge of not having access to the ticket map from the first presale. Why is that important? Because it gives me an idea of what has and hasn't been opened (not every section has been opened in full. Both companies hold seats back for various reasons which is why often times late in a sale we'll see seats pop back up). My apologies for writing that I had them around 70K and not being more clear that it is far from a first estimate. I don't know when that will come. For now, lets roll with what we know for sure. I can tell you when the available count changes and that will give us an idea how much more they've tacked onto that 60K number.

Looking forward to the show. I'm in 112, my second time ever seeing something in a stadium (first was 6000 people soccer game).

Also if you need more confirmation re the sections that were open/they were intending to open - the map that was active accidentally on the Friday before had 143 and 102-103 open.
