I had a boss that was stupid and in order to prevent them from making mountain out of molehills, I had to explain things in emails like if they were five years old. I first heard about this on the office and then actually found a sub reddit called explainlikeimfive. it's changed my life. i actually ask people smarter than me in specific areas of expertise to explain it to me like i am a child. this actually helps people learn too (see one, do one, teach one) that extra step shows how well you understand what you are talking about, rather than just going through the motions or being a glorified button pusher.

Horace, they might be stupid but it is in your advantage to " smile and wave". You might ask why, why should I bite my tongue and let them spew nonsense. well because it will probably work in your favor. Holding back the truth would be the best option because of the fact that they do not understand what you might understand. It could might just be it is geniality impossible for them. Imagine a world in which you knew a truth that no one else does and for speaking it you lived a life constantly hated and being not included. Just remember you have all the cards and knowing how to play them correctly is up to you and that should help you make the best of life. I've never made anything of intelligence until my 30's. Weirdly I've always downplayed my own. Intelligence should not and does not indicate intrinsic value of any person objectively or otherwise. Intelligence is one of those things that no one knows what it is but you feel you can recognize easily. I used to contemplate what intelligence is. Is it memory? Creativity/originality? Speed? depth of reasoning? Breadth of info? Perception/frames of reference? Curiosity? A combination? Seemingly the best the A.P.A. has come up with is a loose consensus best quoted as, "something like speed"? Correct? After having close relationships with a couple of women who I, despite my fondness of them, ultimately identified as objectively dim by their conspicuosly ineffective speech, one a constant reader, who's Breadth of personal cultivation exceeded mine and another whose curiosity matched mine but both shockingly inept at elaborating ideas and communicating anything. I've come to recognize Real intelligence as... energy. "Verve" if you will...The mental energy you put into how you communicate through whatever medium. And the actual effect or impact of their production. Because the truth is anyone, no matter how dumb, can have any one or more of those qualities I've listed above and can appear to be intelligent. I have to agree wholeheartedly with CRP here, the best indicator of someone being intelligent or not is communicating while having in mind the angle from which your listener is approaching the topic so as to be clear and be understood is the best sign.

What about education? Can we educate people out of stupidity?

Ever since that NPC meme got alive, I've started to wonder whether low to average intelligence is related to being a NPC. I don't see much difference, despite a couple of nuances, but I have seen some highly educated individuals who also appear NPC's...food for thought.

Horace. feminists and the coworkers that you are describing here, their problem is not stupidity. It's more like traits of character like arrogance, stubbornness, selfishness, lack of strength to deal with their issues etc. Coach is talking about people who have less IQ points than you. From my experience with people I can tell you that I prefer to deal with dumb people rather than arrogant selfish pricks.

So we should treat feminists with kindness? They are stupid after all, but we should treat them with compassion and caring? Feminism level of stupid is absolute cancer. I strongly believe that nature should play it's course and kill off these dumbasses. The sad part about stupid people is that often times everyone else around them is paying the price for their stupidity. I had so many stupid coworkers who lacks common sense and somehow their stupidity get the rest of the department into trouble.

This video came at a great time. Just last night I was dealing with an impatient stupid person at work. He clearly didn’t read the sign that I was away at the desk and kept waving at me. Needless to say,, with a little bit of patience he went away. But boy it wasn’t an easy task, as stupid people are persistent at getting their point across.

A long term family like acquaintance of mine is exactly what CRP is talking about. He mimics all the terms n phrases... he says he’s a geek, and other catch phrases in fashion... truth is he is a real life Baby Hewy and a violence prone, career criminal / thief. He now is maintenance / live in manager of a 11 story building in San Francisco where by each unit is only 1-2 residents per floor with the top unit costing $8+ million dollars. The job is to move garbage cans, take mail up, sweep messes, handle minor issues with coordinating service people for the building n keeping the heater/boiler on ...when it acts weird.. oh yes, and to sweep shit, n water down urine. Due to laws, he can lie on his resume and get fired continuously from previous positions, and no one can say anything. Also the job while giving free rent ($4500 value at that location) pays only $2,000 a month other wise. He continuously steals from his jobs, but he’s trying not to on this site since it’s his ideal position, ultra fancy place, filled with tenants that typically barley live their, there so rich, livening around the world. And yet he’s hired by a real-estate management company where he licks their ass with fake phrases of being busy, I’m a geek, it’s over whelming but a great privileged n challenge to be working with amazing people... then he’ll back peddle realizing the over whelming word made him look bad... what’s over whelming about moving garbage cans and unlocking a door at 9am so contractors go upstairs which his sole responsibly is to unlock, lock doors n keep hallways clear of lint? He’ll walk out of his job, go to Safeway down the street n then steal $40 in steaks, where if caught he’ll loose his job when arrested n off site for a 6 month + stint since his record sooo filled with violations... only thing is there decriminalizing petty theft in San Francisco so he can steal away now! While this dude is a bit of a outlier he knows when people don’t like him, he’s vengeful, ect... that said if your really nice, dumbly nice to him and act all cool and exciting, you can rip him off mercilessly for years... telling him we’ll get to it later, I love your style, your patients... ect ect. He will want to hurt you but he so t act in it. Toss him a bone once n awhile and kick the can down the street it’s all good. What this dude hates is people who can see him, and treats him with honest interactions. Never do that. The stupid thrive in kindness and or lies... sometimes both... but never point blank honesty. It’s not easy dealing with him. He lies sooo much, is so charming, needs to belief his own lies or he gets compulsive n violent... that is if he’s not working a angle. He’s a passive Narsisist, not a active one. So if you see the lie, and he sees that you see the lie he’ll morph into a scary being, flex down hard n shift into street thug immediately. His arms are thicker than your legs fyi, he’s a genetic freak, n lifts weights a few times a year... never does push ups... ect. Very weird. Suffers from gout. Anyways... So while you feel sorry for him, cus he’s Baby Hewy... he’s secretly trying to fuck you, and will at some point cus he’s compulsive n it he needs to fuck you to feel okay about himself. The only clue he gives out is weird conversation vibes from time to time, weird timing for completed tasks (cus he stays up all night, doesn’t sleep well, no drugs but wack Helier skelter lifestyle), and over enthusiasm with melancholy over tones. He’s also scary looking as f*ck physically or endearingly looking depending on the mood. He’s a monster who like to drive a cute Vespa, with a latte in his paw. I’ve had to boot dude from my life several times. Just be extra nice. Let him take advantage here n there... then create more distance. Give more praise and repeat. Occasionally cast doubt on his good name to his face, then say I know your not like that... right? Your not like that, correct? Then praise n distance more. Wah-la... no more Baby Hewy! Dude targets lonely business owners who dont feel appreciated typically, then robs them (with “justification”) when they catch on to his stupidness... Crp has forewarned us. Great thread. This will really help me keep my temper and manage people that can't stand up to my standards; therefore I'd have to take carefull precautions in how I would have to manage and treat some people in my team efficiently. You've been a great influence/mentor in my life!

I say always set people up for success not failure, i.e you wouldn't try to give the janitor complex physics problems to solve, or measure a salespersons success based off his ability to write software. Set people up for success based off of their capabilities.

This video came at a good time, I’d say this is probably the hardest thing for me to stand because the stupidity of a lot of people shocks me, but you’re right that people can’t help it. I will say that stupid people are smart enough to realize when someone is intellectually competent, so it’s pointless to show it off.
