LMFAO... Cops are scum bags. There is some truth to that statement.

What if you're on vacation? Do you just do this for places you plan on living for a while or for short term visits too?

I never lived in the United States, but I have in Iceland, Sweden and in Germany. The way you describe the bullying by police and the don't-really-give-a-damn-about-justice attitude of the system I recognise here in Germany. It is absolutely anal retentive. Rules are rules. Procedures are procedures, and the police do walk around with huge chips on their shoulders. It was a little bit different in Sweden (different, certainly not better). Sweden is very third-worldish in that way. The police simple serve to uphold the government's monopoly on crime and will ignore all sorts of official rules of procedure to that end. I have no experience with the police in Iceland.

I wish I saw this sooner in my life. I was going to a gun range and improperly transported one of my firearms outside of the proper locked container. (I'm in California, specifically Alameda County where Oakland is a part of.) I got pulled over, cop saw the guns in the back. I didn't know what to do. I complied and he pulled his Glock on me. I'm handcuffed, freaking out. I didn't get arrested, just got a citation, but I wish I had an attorney on my team just to know I'm going to be okay no matter what. I had no priors or anything. Anyway, I found a great criminal attorney that I knew from high school that another high school attorney friend vetted for me. He took care of it, changed a 60 day mandatory jail sentence to just weekend community service (sucked, 6am-2pm but better than risking getting raped in jail). I got multiple misdemeanors scaled down to just one and it'll be expunged in October. So yes, zero jail time, no arrest, just a citation and a misdemeanor that is going away shortly. That's the difference between having an attorney that you pay for and not having one. But ya, the DA wanted to throw the book at me and lock me up as if I was a Black gangbanger from Oakland. There were EXTREME penal code penalities for gun violations since Oakland was murder capital for quite some time. I'm just a clean cut Asian kid working in tech from the suburbs of the richest city (Fremont) of the wrong fucking county that happened to have Oakland's crime history in its legal heritage. If I had left this to the public defender, I would've been fucked. I kid you not, the PD pushed a shopping cart of legal folders in... they had such a volume of cases, there was no way I would've gotten competent counsel. God, having competent counsel in your corner is incredibly important. Even if you never use it. It truly is solid insurance. And should you make a mistake and need it, you'll come out ahead. I wish I saw this video sooner truly. It would've made me feel a lot better and save some bucks. If you're seeing this video and my comment without immediately taking action, then you deserve what's coming to you. You've been politely informed by Coach and now you've been warned by me. Please, don't go through what I did. It just half a year of weekends and 10k, but still. Prevention is worth a pound of cure. Take Coach's advice. Oh ya, when you're dealing with cops and you're in handcuffs...shut the fuck up and say, "I want to talk to my attorney."

Half way though this video I already started browsing criminal attorneys in my area, I haven't got much right now so I'll hold off on getting one. Though once I get money coming in I will be getting one for southwestern Ontario.

Cops are not really scary, take their badge and uniform from them and see if they have balls to do the shit they do without that costume on.

Godd title! lol, so good that I'm gonna steal it! Sorry! Cheers, CRP

Little advice from someone not so naive- virtually every police station has a list of lawyers available. Also, calm down, shut up and be polite, until you talk to a lawyer.

I've been putting this off as I always thought it would cost a lot more than 1-2k and most importantly I thought I never got the money back. Great info, thank you!
