I have been in the music business for over 20 years. So, I completely understand and agree with you about the "wanting people's attention and approval" thing. In the music business, networking, hobknobbing, and rubbing shoulders with people is important. But I've learned to ignore them and move on.

Same with me. Being around people’s large close families as an only child has always felt incredibly awkward because you never know quite how it’s all supposed to go. I prefer choosing who I’m close with and seeing them when I feel like it. My favorite are the ones that can go 6 months without seeing you and when you meet up it’s like you just saw them yesterday.
