Pill Pod 35 - Amnesty Intellectual (Exclusive)

The Pill Pod discusses the rage of elites: ANTI-INTELLECTUALISM. But that's not all! There's also the techno-material conditions for intellectuals, cocaine in coffee houses, and how the university itself has become an anti-intellectual institution.

Yeah, like Pills says here, I wouldn't be going into another uni course and retraining if it wasn't for the fact that you need degrees to successfully apply for jobs. I can read all the books I want in my free time, you can't put that into a CV and be taken seriously at all, no matter how much reading and research I do, you need those credentials. And yeah I'm extremely glad you guys actually make these ideas and thinkers entertaining and interesting: I personally would not have been inspired by an old dude just talking about postmodernism in a Yale lecture theatre on youtube lol. A massive gripe I have with academia (especially those in the social sciences/humanities, those who are concerned with the state of society and supposedly wish to change it) is how they forget that if you want your ideas to inspire the masses to some sort of action, you need to make some actually accessible works (in any medium) that interest and inspire them, and you're definitely not going to do that with endless books that require you to have read even more previously. You just end up writing for your colleagues and peers in the academy and then wonder why the plebs call you elitist and out of touch. Erik was absolutely spot on towards the end re writing a popular book imo

Have y'all ever seen the play (or now movie as well) The History Boys, by Alan Bennett. It touches on some of the issues you've brought to the table here:

Boy this makes me happy I went to trade school. I personally cant stand the anti-intellectualism we see a lot today I was recently talking to a foreman about how I’m going to school part time and he just could not understand why anyone would study philosophy or anything that isn’t like computer science or engineering. It seems like there’s no desire to learn anything just for sake of learning. That being said podcasts like this provide a great supplement for me when I’m having trouble with a concept thank god for organic intellectuals!
