So today I watched this and Adam Curtis’s “All watched over by machines of loving grace”. “In the 1960s, an idea penetrated deep into the public imagination that nature is a self-regulating ecosystem, there is a natural order," Curtis says. "The trouble is, it's not true — as many ecologists have shown, nature is never stable, it's always changing.” (Copied from Wikipedia) In part 2 Curtis presents his thesis that cybernetics and systems theory are, in the end, based on a humanist myth of ‘equilibrium’ and that while self organising networks can bring about perturbations they flounder because they are unable to provide a vision of what comes next-they are unable to present an alternate utopia- and so people are left helpless in front of those who already hold power. (Arab Spring, occupy, Colour Revolutions of 2003...) Love the cyber-socialism video so far and look forward to the final product.
