Salvador Allende's Final Words

Hey all, I realize the Patreon page has been a little dry this month. I moved last weekend and all the joys that come with it: packing, painting, putting new bookshelves together so I don't have to keep them in the closet anymore... you know the drill. As such, my output's lower than usual.

I'll be back on live next week when everything is set up (my camera is still in a box somewhere), but for now I'll share this with you. I put together a vid of Salvador Allende's final words, recorded during the coup, only hours before he shot himself. I've listened to this over a dozen times and it still brings tears to my eyes. Tears of sadness, anger, admiration, and on it goes. This world didn't deserve him.

Anyway, the doc is at about 28 minutes, so it'll be done early-to-mid July and we'll get back to a regular.

Addendum: If you are a native Spanish speaker, I'd welcome any of your feedback on the translation; I didn't do it all myself, but with the audio quality as it is, and my kindergarten Spanish as it is, there may be some things that could be said better. I had to get this recording from a Wayback Machine link because other instances of it seem to have disappeared.........................

While the Castro regime was far from perfect, I'd say Castro was definitely vindicated in his methods over Allende, considering that if the latter didn't shy away from the use of force, he might have accomplished so much more. But, my dude, that Cybernyn snippet.. damn. It's already looking like such a masterpiece of editing. The gunshot and subsequent greyscale effect hit me right in the feels, and I love the way you're narrating: your pointed and effective use of enthusiasm, sarcasm and weariness where it's warranted. Great, great stuff, Pills. In terms of execution, it's going to be your best vid yet. If you took your new skills and applied them to something like the development of neoliberalism through a Baudrillardian lens, it would become my favourite thing on youtube ever. OK, praise and subtle hint over.

Wow. Just wow. As an American listening after January 6th, that hit home. Biden isn’t Allende, but the Right’s strategy never changes. Allende’s courage is honorable.
