Pill Pod 51 - Performativity II: Judith Butler (Exclusive)

We distill Judith Butler's Gender Trouble as one of the later texts of poststructuralism. Although gender is obviously the central example of the book, it figures primarily as a deconstruction of the naturalized body.

Came here after recent newer Butler episode reference, and gotta say, I'd love more discussion of selfhood or lackthereof, in the archetype and the individual. Eric just going off circa 47:35 is 🙏. Entire discussion just felt like a direction I'd like to explore for awareness and understanding of new perspectives.

The fluidity of identity and the body being a boundary sound very D&Gpilled. I knew Butler was a lot more than what the right or even a lot of leftists on social media make her out to be, so thanks for making me aware of yet another philosopher I'd like to check out at some point, Pills. The application of the Lacanian Real to gender was incredibly interesting, along with all the other psychological aspects all of you invoked here as a whole. Also if anyone could elaborate just a little on what Matt mentioned re how Butler applies Hegel's Concept to gender, I'd appreciate it, cause I tried looking that up, and I'm still not sure what he meant by the separation of the universal from the particular in a social context there.
