Pill Pod 53 - FIGHT NIGHT: Zizek vs. Deleuze I (Exclusive)

Long-awaited, much requested, but it took a while for the four of us to all have time to read this book, but this ep has got the juice. Feels like we barely scratched the surface with this one, so there will be a part 2, where we duke it out over Zizek's critique of Deleuze in "Organs Without Bodies" (which I do not recommend you read if you want to learn anything about Deleuze's thought).

Thank you all for your support in keeping this going, while I think these episodes are the best, they also take a lot of man hours and organization to pull off so we're grateful, to you, for the incentive.

Alright, last ten minutes of this podcast is what I'm here for. Understanding in full clarity how no matter what we seem to do (art, cinema, punk, murder, riot), capitalism just steps back and somehow whererver it is we stand turns into a trap door and becomes a new limit of control. Like a genuine discussion on how to dodge that trap door is what I'm here for. How to outmaneuver capitalism. And the last few minutes, the appropriation of D&G by capitalists for capitalism, going back to the Ziziek critique, why wouldn't their writings be subject to the same desire control as all others under Capitalism?? Could this potentially be the shift in writing system between Anti-Oed and ATP, the style of ATP attempts to elude capture and repackaging as control by the Zuccs of the world?

This is hands down the most interesting discussion ever had about the chicken and the egg haha. Little rough finding out I'm the chicken, but in the name of the egg, om mani padme hum. 🙏 And damn, Eric dropping some duration knowledge around 1:00:00. Awesome. And lol, then Matt gets into on cinema and the immense difficulty of making the timeframes of a movie make sense, I had the same idea with writing novels, it is a monumental task to pull it off with realism. In that same vein, movies that are done in one cut, something like Birdman with Keaton? Convo around 1:20:00 is great. Just helped solidify my understanding of the capture of desire by capitalism.

47:50 "Guess you gotta go... read some more books." Lol, the honesty is appreciated. I sometimes wonder why my initial assumption was that philosophy would somehow be easy to understand, like riding a bike. Nonstop books is pretty much the phase I'm in 😂 although I feel like I did pick up what you put down right before that great line.

This was fantastic thank you!

Loved this. Learned a lot.

I have no background in philosophy and I love this podcast. This was a “chewy” episode but you guys did just the right amount of “translating” things into plain English. I love these episodes so I can get a feel for the concepts, and then pick and choose what I’d like to read more about next.

It's herding cats lol. On desiring production, think of it like hunger. Are you hungry from a lack of food? Or are you hungry because your stomach nerves PRODUCE a response, the force of which causes you to go forage? It's not really wrong to say either, but one is a description of a productive process and the other describes it with reference to lack.

Great stuff, really glad you're not forgetting to pull the guys back down to earth when needed, Pills, always appreciated. I fuckin love Deleuze and dig almost every concept I've heard and read about them so far, with the one particular exception of desire-production in so far as its supposed to be a replacement for lack. Desire without lack is completely nonsensical IMO and doesn't explain unconscious drives, the ideal I, or how capitalism exploits this unfulfillable desire in order to endlessly sell us products in order to keep the system of consumption going.

Organs without bodies.

Erik, as usual, slayed.

I love it. It makes zizeks “reading” of D&G sound like Peterson’s “reading” of Nietzsche 🥴 except Zizeks intent is baiting. My affection for Zizek forces that take, but I’m not going to reconcile JP in this way.

Zack Klug

The end of history would not be complete without Zizek bringing up fist fucking

Plastic Pills

One (2 part) episode to change the discourse 🤗
