Overdose - Nietzsche (Exclusive)

Pour a coffee, or something stronger, because this is a special one: a 5 course, two-hour-long discussion of Nietzsche, his significance to 20th century philosophy, our interpretations, and finally, the DANGER of his thought.

If you have any feedback or questions for us, feel free to post them below. And I have one question: I have only been posting the exclusive episodes here, while the public episodes go to the main feed. Would  you prefer that ALL episodes are posted here, or should I keep it as is?

I mean, sure if you believe that history has an inevitable progression and that communism is inevitable. But like the guys said, the death of God also means the death of grand narratives like this one in Marxism, and that it's impossible to be outside of history looking in. This is why Nietzsche was so influential on the postmodern philosophers. And if you take a sober look at humanity's current state of being, at the incredible power, reach and sophistication of current capitalist ideology and where we're currently headed, I don't think it's possible to believe that ultimate freedom for all is by any means inevitable.

One of Pills' best qualities is his ability to empathise with us non-academics and right away realise when the conversation is taking a direction that's too abstract for us to follow - as soon as I start feeling alienated from the conversation, Pills brings it back down to earth again. Also, Erik's 'wokeness/privilege' reading was chad af. #willtopiss KILLED it at the end.

Thanks, this was very interesting! I'm a bit late to the party, but can one not make an argument for the "progress" of history without requiring an external viewpoint (i.e. Archimedean Point as Matt said)? Suppose the individuals in a society ultimately want freedom and autonomy, they will struggle against oppressive systems which pop-up across time (e.g. feudalism, slavery, capitalism, etc.). Under these systems you always have a minority in power which oppress the majority, and by definition the majority are larger and have power through their numbers, so ultimately history will progress until ultimate freedom for all is achieved. This gives history something of a purpose without requiring an external pivot, no?
