Pill Pod 71 - Platonic Moronic (Exclusive)

Plato has had it too easy. We take an hour and a bit to divide the philosophers from the sophists.

I'm not gonna bother looking this up but I remember hearing about that and apparently the reason was that they considered the actual head of the penis inappropriate to have showing in public so it was basically like putting your junk in a sock.

Excellent, dropping the hard sciences down a peg ;)

Fuck, I was in the middle of the lab with lab boss having a meeting with some colleagues nearby when the foreskin discussion came up. I spat out laughing and almost spilled some bacterial DNA all over my pants. Good shit guys.

Best Platonic opinion: democracy sucks.

Lol to Victor. Hardt teaches at my university. I think he's just a Deleuzian who got too hopeful about the possibility of social movements as emergent properties rather than heirarchies. I definitely agree with your skepticism though. I'm from Texas, I can't afford to have faith in the multitude.

Platon is 'Plato' in English because that's how the Latin tradition transliterated 'Πλάτων' and English translators decided to use it. The nu, or 'n', is frequently dropped in Latin. Latin words tend not to end with 'n'. Bigger question is why is Aristotle not Aristoteles, Ἀριστοτέλης, as it is in German? And the answer is, that's how it was transliterated into English. In French he is Aristote. Another thing, the end of names is not fixed in Greek. Names decline like any other noun. In the nominative, Plato is Platon (ὁ Πλᾰ́των), but in the accusative it's Platona (τὸν Πλᾰ́τωνᾰ), in genetive it's Platonos (τοῦ Πλᾰ́τωνος), and in the dative it's Platoni (τῷ Πλᾰ́τωνῐ). The name and article declines, and a name is rarely used without an article. You don't talk to Socrates, you talk to the Socrates, because the article is grammatically significant in a way it is not in English.

OK our memories weren't decimated by writing, but it came with accidents. Imagine the mutation rate of myths and their integration with local environments and psychology in rhizomatic pre-text societies.

Vizzini: Let me put it this way. Have you ever heard of Plato, Aristotle, Socrates? Westley: Yes. Vizzini: Morons.
