PRIORITY Q&A

Chris A.

Is there any chance that the Archie Sonic characters might show up in idw sonic?

AfroLuffyX

In a alternative universe how would you re-write the endgame arc in Pre-reboot Archie Sonic

Sony N.

I'm currently making my own comics and finally finished issue one's pencils. I'm mostly an artist but I write my own stories. When I write my scripts I tend to do a paragraph a page. Or a paragraph = one page. How do you do it? Do you do it panel by panel, page by page? I know it'll be different since you're writing to the artist.. but what tips do you have for when the writer is the artist. Basically I'm a one man show trying to make it and making progress.. but slow progress.

GLITCHIEST

With the metal virus and zombotification, when someone's effectively zombotified do they retain any level of awareness (such as how satAM handled roboticization as kind of 'I have no mouth and I must scream' situation), or is it more like they're basically brain-dead and unaware until cured?

GLITCHIEST

If Sonic had been fully zombot-ified, how would he behave? Would he basically be another addition to the slow-moving, shambling masses of zombots, would he be a high-risk super-speed kinda' zombot or would he retain his sense of self like he did during the werehog transformation?

Hero of Light 13

You've referred to Sonic several times as a nomad or "hobo" (lol), yet there's been at least two instances in the games where he's depicted as having a house, the first in Sonic Labyrinth (albeit in the game manual...), and the more notable example being in the opening scene to Sonic and The Secret Rings before he enters the book world (and that's not even mentioning his Boom and Movie depictions). While it's true that Sonic's adventurous personality and lifestyle DOES have him constantly on the move, resting wherever he feels comfortable, isn't it reasonable to assume that he still has a house of his own that he occasionally scurries back to between adventures? Material like Secret Rings and the classic promotional art clearly shows that even he enjoys the small things in life like curling up with a good book, sitting by the fire, leaving his best friend stuck outside in the cold during Christmas Eve, so while I understand him not being much of a homebody, I can still see him having a dwelling to at least hang his shoes up in once in a while. Then again, I could also see it constantly getting dusty from how little it's used too.

Hero of Light 13

My question is can't Sonic CD fit comfortably between Sonic 2 and 3? Most of the Sonic games tend to follow each other by release order anyway, there's nothing to suggest that Sonic 3 starts like a day after Sonic 2's ending, and even the Japanese manual for 3 suggests that Sonic and Tails were on vacation between games anyway. With that kind of flexible amount of time to work with you could reasonably fit CD and maybe one of the Tails games in there (to justify why they aren't together in either title). Meanwhile Eggman has enough time to win over Knuckles and repair the Death Egg to the point where he can launch it over the course of a day or two in Sonic 3. You even set the precedent by placing the events of CD between 2 and 3 in the Genesis of A Hero arc, and I think that worked well. Sonic 2 always worked better as a true sequel and Sonic 3 works best as a grand finale to the original Classic series so placing CD between the two feels more fitting in terms of pacing and overall scope.

What does Whisper keep in those little pods under her jacket? Are they some kind of explosives, or do they contain her Wisps? If the later, does that mean Wisps can be caught like pokemon? If so, the Colors remastermake should have a Wisp catching element. They could have a whole minigame one the side where you raise Wisps. You could feed them and race them and even make them right. It could be called Wisp Garden. I'm a genius. Hire me, Sega.

Scurvy Piratehog (KoFi)

I just saw a cover for an issue of Sonic universe which had the Sonic cast dressed up as pirates. So just for pure fun (And because we have established pirates makes everything better) how would you re-imagine the Sonic cast as pirates? feel free to include IDW Characters.

Which is your favourite eeveelution and why?

How many geese does it take to change a lightbulb?

Ian, you said there are licensing rules, guideless & whatever SEGA/Sonic Team decides on which is always changing. Why are some people trying to prove that the so-called SEGA mandates exist when it was stated that they don't? Some even call SEGA's everchanging decisions mandates.

Ian, Amy in the games can summon a bigger hammer. She does so in Sonic Advance 3 when partnered w/Knuckles & she did so at the end of Sonic Rush after the end credits when she was chasing Sonic. Will Amy ever get to summon & use her bigger hammer that's game canon in IDW Sonic?

Dove

Hey guys. If you had to put the Ghostbusters into the Sonic world, which species would each one be?

Papadripopolous

Ian- recently I saw some tweets showing some lovely pages from Frank Miller's Daredevil from the 80s, where he used thin narrow panels to great effect for a cinematic feel that still allowed a lot of infoermation per page, allowing some times for some 15 panels per page. It struck me as a stark contrast to modern comic books, which often deel so decompressed that you finish reading an issue and felt you got little from it. I've noticed in your works for instance that the average seems to be 5 panels per page- often 4, sometimes 6. This allows for easier art, but can make things feel a bit empty, in my opinion, but also breezy and easier to read. Has this ever been something you considered, like a specific choice "this is a comic for kids, make it easy to read", or is it just a result of the decompression trend in comics of the 2000 which was the ecosphere when you'd started working, something you picked up and never thought about because it reads well and feels natural to you? Kyle (and obviously Ian can hop in)- it's been a few weeks now IIRC, I assume you've already watched Godzilla vs. Kong. Thoughts on it?

Priority Q&A: (I missed some priority questions, so hopefully this length is ok) Have you gotten any notes on all the robot doppelgängers? I always love learning about them. It seems the fandom recently learned that the Mecha Sonic from Adventure has a similar design to Mecha Godzilla. Any thoughts on that? Also, do you think we’ll ever see the old robot doppelgängers again? Seeing Silver Sonic from Game Gear in both Archie and Mania was neat, and he seemed to get a redesign in both. I always wondered if he was initially designed to have only one arm and got redesigned or if the newer designs are newer models. Basically, enlighten me on all things robot doppelgängers from Sonic if you can. And dolls too. Tails Dolls.

STANDARD Q&A

Tik Tik

What challenges do you feel come out of the fandom's obsession with wanting to slot everything in together when SEGA doesn't seem to care about making a continuous story and is more interested in self-contained narratives? Do you think it's a hindrance to the franchise that fans expect more than what the series seems to want to be?

Rodimus Prime

Ian, when you were writing the 25/ 30 years later Story arc did you consider redesigning Sonya and Manic?  I’ve heard some people voice frustration over the fact that they’re basically mini clones of Sonic and Sally.  I get that they were designed before your time as head writer. Were the original designs kept just to indicate that they were OK after being erased from reality or am I just overthinking this?

Colin B.

To Ian, how do you think Knuckles would handle himself and his life if the master emerald and Angel island were both irreparably destroyed?

A Chilly Dog

In the rebooted Archie Sonic series, you mentioned the main cast having some brief memories of their old lives. Did that extend to any of the minor characters? (I.e., Did "Uncle To Everyone" Chuck remember being Uncle Chuck? Did Ben Muttski remember being a dog named Muttski?) Coincidentally, why did you switch Muttski from a dog to a dog-person-man-mobian (?)

Dejimon11

What would you say is the hardest part of doing a podcast? Especially one that’s as entertaining and engaging as this one?
