Pill Pod 132 - Fairy Tale Feminism

With the release of the Barbie movie, the feminine symbol has been deployed this summer. But for thousands of summers previous, the role of the feminine was managed by folk stories and fairy tales. Featuring the literary stylings of Victor Hainagiu (known to us as Lit Vic) we broach the topic of the feminine symbolic through the story of Snow White.

Check out this version of Neil Gaiman's Snow White in the form of a graphic novel: https://comiconlinefree.net/snow-glass-apples/issue-tpb/1

eric, u rocked it at v end w barbie framed in ‘coffin’ art object come to life w ‘kiss’ of desire on the part of kids individual narratives. But u all missed the structural Lacanian possibilities of jouissance/ demand of the mother prior to the fall into desire/language of the child…and also ego-identification in the mirror stage…. Also the Xtian/pagan elements. Not to mention the repressed aspect of greek theater… the murderous desire of parents to kill their child seen as a threat ( oedipus) . But many outstanding moments from all 3 of u.

Mattel products and word of mouth folk tales are assemblages. Play simulates reality and produces it. Models can be tools and toys.

I remember that Erich Fromm treated the concept of necrophilia as the only response to life that was in complete opposition to it. Looking at life in a mechanical way. Life is unpredictable and uncontrollable, the necrophilic seeks to control life, so it turns it into death. While life is growth, the necrophile loves everything that does not grow, what is certain (death), what is merely mechanical

I really enjoy these episodes on literature and how theory/philosophy can inform how we read. 👍🏼
