Affect Theory and Revolutionary Routines - Interview with Carolyn Pedwell

Victor interviews Professor Carolyn Pedwell, editor of the Affect Theory Reader (two volumes) and Revolutionary Routines (https://amzn.to/44FykoA). Pedwell argues that minor gestures may be as significant as major happenings, revealing the potential in our ability to remake social or political habits and then to reinhabit everyday life.

Affect Theory is just the theory of affects lol. Affects are vague states of mind that aren't yet reified into nominal emotions. They're, if you will, emotions without notions. That's the Jamesonian take anyway.

I loved this interview. If y'all can get more interviews with philosophers on their books/articles, that'd be rad. Also, I would be pretty hyped if y'all did an episode or series on the book organism-oriented ontology by Audrone Zukauskaite. And would LOVE if y'all were able to interview Zukauskaite.

I still don’t know what affect theory is

If broken down and incentivised, habit can be a tool for control. It reforms rather than revolutionises, but on an individual level, sometimes a nudge can create cascading change

first time poster long time enjoyer... just wondering if you've remembered since the name of the book mentioned in passing on a political theory of revolution/civil war centered around "loss" rather than raising consciousness? thx in advance and keep up the great work team pills

I see Dance Studies delving into so many other disciplines, but rarely the other way around. Randy Martin, Susan Leigh Foster, and André Lepecki would be a nice dive in relation to the body and protest. not everybody will be a choreographer, many will follow the everyday choreography set by society.

Great interview, thank you for this! I hope there can be more interviews in the future, they're really awesome

Matt S

its nice to pave back over some older topics

Vic

Thank you, Victor for this inspiring guest. Finally, a compelling reason to delve into the works of Deleuze and Guattari, authors you've frequently mentioned as unread in your repertoire. The depth and lexicon of your guest clearly draw inspiration from Deleuze and Guattari.
