Heidegger: How Nazi Wazi? (Video Exclusive)

The endless debate over Heidegger's National Socialism continues with the 2022 edition of Heidegger's History of Beyng and accusations of his editors sanitizing his more deplorable takes, but as usual, Baudrillard cuts through the bullshit and reflects upon who this debate is REALLY for.

H takes the naturalisation of the myth of nation for rootedness. Fragmentation into boundaries as an alternative to obesity seems like a good idea, but investing too much power into a machine as big as a nation is takes it way beyond the common interests of individuals, unless you have an Allende.

Nice Yeats allusion

The question of him being a Nazi and if his work has fascist leanings is pointless when the West regarded the Nazis as allies against communism; when most of what Hitler said made alot of sense to the common Westerner. The west was already slouching toward fascism and the Axis were simply the first to pull the trigger. Which created a revulsion that was mostly aesthetic, and allowed the underlying logic of fascism to become a permanent organ of capitalism. My point is that Heidegger was a typical neurotic middle class subject. If there was a fascist tone it was his desperation to find god in a world of markets.

Adorno said something v close to that in i believe ‘After auschwitz’?

Philosophy died in the gas chambers? Was that his?

Adorno? rather than Fraenkel? Also… the Trump trials… the impossibility of ‘punishing’ him for crimes… salient point in Baudrillard. ( Although by the time of Trump, the related history is already so hyper real and hyper farcical it’s even more to the point.

Thank you. Brill. And also ‘timely’ in that ‘we’ don’t even chew over past history obsessively, but (canadian parliament) swallows a version whole (equivalent to a kind of total forgetting or end of history 2.0) and gives the standing ovation heil to a nazi, a true nazi thug, an SS volunteer nazi, with blood on his hands AND in the soil, a ‘man’ of action not thought, and much worse in act, deed, than MH. All in the name, once again, of freedom, but this time in service of the spirit of ‘democracy’ and north amerika.

Maybe people are sick of the "was Heidegger a Nazi?" debate, but I'd love to hear Eric and Victor's take on it and even maybe have a guest on or something? Obviously I doubt a conclusion will ever be reached on this, but nearly every podcast/lecture etc. that's explicitly about Heidegger or even just mentions him or his ideas in passing usually ends up having at least a brief aside about it. I dunno I think it's an interesting topic worth digging into more.

Nice title lol
