Hello, I spotted a connection where you discuss how terrorists act in opposition to the end of history because they believe too much(1:05:15). In Mark Fisher's DOCH lecture he treads a similar line in talking of the last man as someone who is "jealous of the fanatic, because they have the possibility for belief where he has none"(para). Obviously Fisher is a fellow advocate that history has slowed to a halt, or "accelerated into inertia" as he might put it. thought this could be something to explore.✌️

I feel like my "history" is just my purchasing things. Things like Zelda: link to the past mark my past. Buying a couch. Not birthdays or graduations.

That Streetcleaner remaster though. That shit kicks way more ass than the original release.

the Christian fundamentalists found the pill pod? That’s funny. What were they doing or expect listening to pill pod? Anyways, ya it wasn’t clear at first Pills was pretty well read when it comes to scriptures. I caught it that he knows more than let on from a throwaway comment in the episode. Anyways, the questions were completely reasonable and are still left even after explanation about why Christian’s are still expecting the end. The questions about the point of it all and the coherency remain even though we might understand the historical origins of the beliefs.

Many elements of black metal, like using poor quality sound equipment, have a disembodying effect, bringing the experience closer to an idea of death. An artist called Burial (not black metal) samples crackle & fuzz and uses imperfect timing to bring body and life to the music. "Perfect" sound pretends it has no inherent aesthetic, so it becomes impossible to justify changes to the values behind the process. Remastered albums always leave swathes of the fanbase disappointed. Remastering history to align it with an illusiory non-aesthetic perfection... well I guess we're doing it anyway so fuck it why not I guess

Firstly it specifies a uniquely French phenomenon (that came and went) so it is specific to that and what spins off from there. It kind of takes the place of philosophy, in so far as philosophy tries to answer the causality questions. But, theory would have to understand its own limits in a sense? Theory itself is a type of limit in and on thought to distinguish itself on some level from fantasy. It can’t totalize. In that way it is a ‘believing’ without believing. Thus also falls more on the side of experiment… or attempts.. to pose certain questions that opens up onto what is actually happening in the ‘present’ … whats really going on and what might be done about it. Thus the experimental aspect aligns more w aesthetic approach than just philosophical arguments. Also i was struck by how much the liberal reversibility of history, denial of singularity ( trauma) is like the Americanized misunderstanding of psychoanalysis as psychotherapy—-providing the rewritten narrative to reverse the trauma so it doesnt bother you anymore. In fact this IS the American Dream in one sense…. But anyway…

Interesting. What does that term mean for you?

Pils thanks for the ‘theory’ clarity on JB. I think you r the only one on the pod who has a sense or feel for ‘theory.’
