2023-03-21 01:02:48 +0000 UTCA much more apt example than COVID is the Drug War. The dangers posed by drug use are far less severe than the dangers unleashed by making drugs illegal. It's just like the war on terror. Anyone is a potential terrorist, and everyone is responsible for rooting out terrorism. With drugs, everyone is a potential addict and / or criminal, and police rely on communities to police one another by either intervening or ratting. Either way, the drug war only perpetuates the continued existence of backlogged district attorneys offices whose sole existence is to process cases and imprison (mostly black and brown) people for either using or selling drugs. Call the police after a theft and see how much energy they devote to finding who stole your shit. My money's on none.
