Great stuff. One thing I love about Baudrillard’s analysis is that it takes the wind completely out of the sails of the art snobs and critics who never stfu about how essentially deep art is and if you’re not incredibly moved by this painting or that, then you’re some sort of mouth-breathing troglodyte. That art is never experienced outside some sort of cultural context, that art always served as a vehicle for sign exchange in every epoch you care to look at is kinda relieving in the same way that the non-existence of the social is relieving tbh.

So art is a dirty trade again, the naked corruption of insider trading making it the dirtiest it can be. And that process seeming exponential is why Warhol feels quaint while Baudrillard ages like prophetic wine. But does outsider art get outside or is all art applied art?
