The Real Billionaire Conspiracy: Freeport Capitalism (Early Access)

Conspiracy theory or mere conspiracy? Back in art history, it was said to have a social purpose. Now, it's become anti-democratic investment vehicle for the obscenely rich so I've meticulously animated this corkboard to inform you what you already know.

Wait how can I access this? Do I need to be a member as well? Or do I just need to link my account to patreon somehow?

Socialswine

Could contemporary art get a shock value loss like NFTs, or does the flesh of masters/infinite desire of tax dodgers stabilise the category?

Alex B

ohhhhhhhhhh boy

Alex Petty

Could you explain the concept a little or give me a title or source?

Hey Pills I have a serious comment for once, diamonds were mentioned and I have my own conspiracy about them. So I've been getting into minerals and gems and blood diamonds come up. I had presumed blood diamonds were diamonds that had violence in the exchange of ownership but they’re not. https://www.withclarity.com/blogs/diamond/what-is-a-blood-diamond Here’s the definition The United Nations (UN) has defined blood diamonds as those diamonds that have been mined in areas that are not under the control of any internationally recognized government and sold to finance a violent uprising against that government. It doesn't have to do with slavery, child labor, or poor working conditions in general, because those exist all over the world and in the trade anyways, it is just if the diamonds are sold to fund a rebel group. My conspiracy theory is that the concept of blood diamonds is pushed to get people to buy lab grown diamonds because they are cheaper for the producer. It's acknowledged that mining operations are complex and expensive, so much so that a rebel groups aren't likely to engage in them. But this applies to big corporations too, that also use cheap unethical work, which mind you, is not bad enough to be a blood diamond. Only people that sell diamonds to buy guns in a fight against a government are bad. I can't find the article I got this from but it is an actual quote, "The only way that the blood will finally be washed away from conflict diamonds is if there is a true fair-trade-certification process that allows conscientious consumers to buy Congo’s artisanal diamonds with peace of mind—just as they might a cup of coffee." Beyond parody.

Brilliant stuff my dude! I feel Debord is getting redeemed at the end when I remember that last video on him, cause yeah, the decisions have been made by the ownership class, the avatars of capital, and were busy squabbling over culture war bullshit

anacidcommie

This is why Baudrillard coined sign value

anacidcommie

Capital man, it’s capital all the way down.

anacidcommie

Fantastic as usual :D

Akepa

money is god type beat

Alex Petty

But of course it’s price is different than the actual magnitude of value

Jack

It strikes me that the value being embodied in the painting is of course not it’s use value, but it’s also not it’s socially average labor time. To me it seems like it’s the labor of another sort. Maybe the socially average labor it takes to reproduce the work of doing all this Freeport capitalism.

Jack

This video should be titled 'the hidden meanings in TENET' - if you know you know
