Pill Pod 215 - The Woke Right ft. 1Dime

While Pills is away, 1Dime came to play. Tony rejoins the pill pod to excavate the terms "woke right" and the semiotics of "woke" more broadly. We attempt to deduce which conservative faction is accusing which other of wokeness, although it is sometimes tough going figuring what they mean by the term.

I felt some pain when Tony and Victor were talking about Africa. Pan Africanism was a serious thing during decolonization and people like Fanon wouldn’t be as important if there wasn’t some shared solidarity between the African diaspora and the Africans of the continent. A number political leaders in Africa during decolonization were associated with the negritude movement which spanned continents. This is the kinda shit that needs to be contextualized instead of faux contextualized by saying Marcus Garvey was a weirdo and didn’t understand shit. He is weird but he also grew up in Jamaica so he definitely had the shared experience of being under British colonial rule so he wasn’t totally alienated from the experience of Africans, at least those in the British empire.

Btw for 1Dime, if you don’t find a direct reference to Evangelicalism and woke just look at the whole historical genealogy from the Protestant reformation through. The theory does make sense from a general cultural standpoint if we say even secular culture has origins there
