Halloween Month

What horror films are you guys getting into for this Halloween? New and old, obscure or mainstream. Let me know!

Comments

If you have Criterion Channel, it's on there under the 70s horror section

Ryan

I admit, I've never seen that one all the way through.

Deepfocuslens

I just watched The Wicker Man (1973). The ending just brings a smile to my face. It was very rewarding to watch for the first time.

Ryan

My absolute favorite horror films are: The Haunting, Fright Night, The Thing, The Collector, Alien, Conjuring, The Changeling (1980), and Black Christmas. These deliver EVERY single time!! Would love to see you review any one of these!

Tony Moro

Haven't seen that one.

Deepfocuslens

One of my top three favorite horror films that still legitimately scares me is 1963’s The Haunting.

Tony Moro

Wes Craven’s New Nightmare

Justin _Films

I'm not a big horror fan but so far I've been hitting up the classics. Started with Nightmare on Elm St. Probably revisit the original Halloween.

Ryan

That's one I gotta get around to.

Deepfocuslens

Yeah, that's a good one.

Deepfocuslens

I'm thinking about rewatching The Haunting. The original not the terrible remake. So many underrated actors like Julie Harris and Claire Bloom in one of the greatest psychological character studies I've ever seen.

Wolfman Brandon

A Tale of Two Sisters - Korean horror film with some unnerving suspense and ghostly imagery. Plays with fairy tale tropes and haunted houses. I've only seen it once but is a film that definitely can be watched multiple times to grasp the themes and meanings

Emerson B

Nice! I'm reviewing House/Hausu next!

Deepfocuslens

Yeah the Friday the 13th series isn't the greatest, some of them are hilariously bad but there are a few okay ones. Also yes I've heard good things about the Elm Street sequels.

Stephen

I like to mix it up and watch a whole spectrum of horror. Me and my friends usually start with the very shocky/schlocky genre films early in the month, films like One Cut of The Dead, House/Hausu, Scanners, and Reanimator

Eugene Cumberbatch

Hocus Pocus because it glorifies pedophilia and Adrenochrome. Rewatch it!! Also, Pinocchio is really a film about child-trafficking. This was the pre-cursor to Epstein and Weinstein.

Tony Moro

Oldboy and The Handmaiden are my faves but this one is great a really interesting slant on a vampire flick

jared Clarke

From the man behind Shark Exorcist. Oof. I'm taking your word for it here cause that seem unbearable given what he did after this movie.

Tyler Shobe

Haven't seen that one. Where would you rank it among his other works?

Deepfocuslens

Yeah same for me. Though if you want hardcore schlock as in, direct to video terrible horror from the 1980s, you gotta get high as shit and watch The Killing Spree. It's life changing.

Deepfocuslens

I'll have to look into that one. Definitely know of it, but not much else. I haven't seen any new horror films from this year. But in recent years I was a big fan of It Follows, The Babadook, The Witch, Raw, the list goes on. That's just off the top of my head.

Deepfocuslens

Great stuff! I gotta review Eyes Without a Face sometime. It's been on my list to get to eventually.

Deepfocuslens

Good choice. I personally was never much of a fan of Friday the 13th. Nightmare on Elm Street for me had a lot more style to it, if I recall.

Deepfocuslens

Since my taste tends to steer towards arthouse horror I tend to try to watch a popular horror film series where I haven't seen most if not all of the movies. The past couple years I've done Halloween and Friday the 13th, this year I think I'm going to do the Nightmare on Elm Street series.

Stephen

Almost every October I try to watch night of the living dead, the shining, eyes without a face, the omen & the old universal horror monster films.

Christian Sanaploianu

Not the most Halloween-y horror film, but every year around this time I revisit The Innocents. One of the most perfect horror films ever made, with two of the best child performances ever put on screen. Still gets under my skin after seeing it at least half a dozen times.

Andrew Reed

The Omen, Eraserhead, Angel Heart, Carpenter's The Thing, Let the Right One In, Hellraiser, Just Before Dawn

Oskitello

Antebellum by any chance can you do a review on this movie? It’s been getting so many mixed reviews I would like to hear your take on it since I value your opinion highly. Any new horror movies you would personally recommend? I prefer ones with great storylines in particular.

Neville Oliver

I've been meaning to go back and watch more schlocky slashers like Friday the 13th, Sleepaway Camp and Slumber Party Massacre and Halloween seems like the perfect time to indulge that morbid interest. If you guys have any similar recommendations, I'm all ears.
