Raiders of the Lost Ark - Nothing feels good quite like adventure, action, hidden treasure, and watching Nazis get punched in the face

2020-11-04 13:25:14 +0000 UTCI’m a die hard fan of Tim Burton, and three of his films never fail to put a smile on my face every time: Beetle Juice, Ed Wood and Nightmare Before Christmas (even though he didn’t direct). Also, 1999’s The Mummy is my favorite pure popcorn Hollywood movie!

We still e watch the film once in a while together when we find the time. It's also a very well made 80s cheesy comedy with lots of great iconic moments.

I watched this movie so many times during my childhood and I never get tired of it. It makes me feel young and carefree. Love the humour, special effects and music as well.

2020-11-03 21:20:09 +0000 UTCThe Last Starfighter (1984). It may not be the first film that pops into most people's minds as a "feel good" movie, but for me, it kind of has everything. It came out when I was in my mid-teens (almost the same age as Alex, the main character). Also like Alex, I had grown up poor, with a single mom, I was into arcade games, etc. So I really related to the protagonist. Now, for adult me, all of that is still part of me, plus the nostalgia of capturing that time in my life. It's a sci-fi-flavored fantasy romp, with a kid from the everyday world going off to save the universe (kind of like an early Harry Potter, but with outer space and arcade games instead of witches and wizards). That's for sure up my alley, and is enjoyable fun to watch. As a bonus, the film features Robert Preston, who is one of my favorite actors of all time. There's simply nothing to dislike about it, as long as you go into it knowing not to take it too seriously. Watching this can turn my mood around any time. :)

2020-11-03 19:16:21 +0000 UTCIt's Paddington (and Paddington 2 if that's not cheating). It has all the visual candy of a Wes Anderson movie without the innate sadness plus wholesome messages and expressive, likeable, sweet characters. It always makes me feel like a kid when I watch it in the best way possible and always gives me hope.
