Movie Suggestions

Ya'll....I'm not gonna lie, after watching Space Jam I just wanna watch something I really enjoy. XD What movies do you consider your comfort movies, or movies you really enjoy no matter what? Not a topic question. Just wanting some ideas. Thanks!

Female trouble has been a recent favorite of mine that I can’t help going back to. Yes it’s a gross and campy John waters movie and bad in a technical sense, but it’s one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen.

Anthony Murray

The Paddington movies have become comfort ones for me(especially the 2nd one) wholesome, funny with a lot of heart and sophistication. With great performances, just head and shoulders over most “family” films.

jared Clarke

It's the most light-hearted and humorous of the trek films, it nails the 'fish(es) out of water' plot line, the environmental message is more relevant than ever and it ends in a very positive way.

Naked Gun was a better Avengers spin-off than Black Widow 🤣

Tony Moro

The Fugitive

Bennett Oliver

Haha Star Trek 4? Hm Interesting choice. Why so?

Deepfocuslens

I've actually never seen that! ><

Deepfocuslens

I recently returned to The Naked Gun, as I do every couple of years or so. Gets me every time.

In no particular order - Conan the Barbarian (1982), The Thing, Predator, Starship Troopers, The Flight of the Navigator, Willow, The Never Ending Story, Galaxy Quest, Jaws, Back to the Future, Annie Hall, The Witches of Eastwick, The Truman Show & Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home.

Ross Skilton

There is no good one...

Manuel Johnen

Space Jam! The GOOD one!

Tony Moro

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles '90 I've seen more than 100 times!

Tony Moro

Goodfellas, Clerks, Superbad, City of the Living Dead, Terrorvison, Dolls, Bride of Chucky, Hot Rod, Taxi Driver, Friday the 13th Part VI, The Female Bunch, Castle of the Living Dead, The Rats are Coming! The Werewolves are Here, Nightbirds, Santa Sangre...

You mentioned Miyazaki in your review, so I'd go with one of their classics. It's Wong Kar-wai's birthday, so I'm going to put on "Days Of Being Wild" myself. :-D

Grant Phipps

The Thin Man is entertainment at its finest.

Deepfocuslens

All great choices!

I haven't seen City of God is sooo long

Deepfocuslens

My Man Godfrey and The Thin Man ❤️

Ronet Jankovski

Try Galaxy Quest (1999): It works for me no matter how many times I watch it.

Klaus Gehrmann

Off the top of my head, some of my "go-to" movies would definitiely include: Goodfellas, The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, The World's End, Mad Max: Fury Road, Heat, Collateral, Jaws, The Thing, Halloween, Escape From New York, Night of the Living Dead, Total Recall, Batman, Batman Returns, Catch Me If You Can

Stephen

City of God, The World's Fastest Indian, Spartan (2004), and Margin Call. Totally disparate films but I return to them again and again depending on my mood.

James ODonoghue

Maggie you might get a kick out of Babysplitters. My friend Maiara Walsh is one of the main stars.

Tony Moro

Dazed and Confused. I watch it every few years and enjoy it every time. My favorite high school movie. Almost as good is Everybody Wants Some!! Both of them are by Linklater.

Bennett Oliver

1984 Ghostbusters

Matt G

Any Billy Wilder film preferably The Apartment or Some Like it Hot. Recover from American corporate cynicism with satires of American corporate cynicism. Gives me validation on my feelings about society.

Wolfman Brandon

Aliens, The Mummy '99, Fury Road, Predator, Back To The Future, Batman VS Ninja Turtles, The Thing, these are all my go-to comfort movies that I watch a lot!

Tony Moro

Highly recommending revisiting Fury Road, or, hell, review Road Warrior!

Definitely agree with Tyler in regards to Miyazaki films, in particular Kiki's. I also really enjpy to watch any of the three from The Cornetto Trilogy by Edgar Wright. Now this may only work for me because I've watched all of them so many times, also throw in Scott Pilgrim to that as well. Having seen each of those movies a countless number of times it's easy to just sit back a relax while watching them. Don't have to worry about missing anything because I obviously know all of the story beats inside and out. Yet I'll still find myself catching really small details every watchthrough, whether it be a small editing trick, or a side gag off in the background. Then there is always A Nightmare Before Christmas, I feel like it's difficult not to have a good time watching it.

I don't think it's appreciated by a lot of Miyazaki's adult fans because it is far less mature than Mononoke and less balls to the wall creative like Spirited Away. But I still put it in that tier of his movies cause I find the simplicity of it charming and actually find Kiki's character journey one of the most relatable and well realized of his canon.

"Split Second"

Miyazaki films are great. It's been a while since I've seen KiKi's Delivery Service. But I did enjoy it.

Also Back to the Future is a big comfort movie for me. Not only does it give me that nostalgia hit cause I watched it as a kid SO much but I also think it's perfectly structured. I know there are certain feelings towards Zemeckis but for my money, this is far and away the best thing he's done. It perfectly balances sentiment, story and character.

Miyazaki movies. I just watched Kiki's Delivery Service with my younger sister last nice and had a very delightful evening after a stressful day.
