David Lynch and Wisteria
Added 2020-11-28 20:49:29 +0000 UTCLynch is writing a new show for Netflix! What are your thoughts? Ideas on what it could be?

Television often is far greater nowadays than a lot of current American films. I'd say that the television medium is a better showcase for Lynch work.

2020-11-30 00:16:20 +0000 UTCDefinitely looking forward to this. AFAIK, the only info we really have to go by is the name (Wisteria). Aside from the obvious floral connotation, the word suggests "wistful," which makes me think it might be a continuation of the examination of nostalgia that he touched on in Twin Peaks: the Return (just thematically; not another Twin Peaks show). It also reminds me of "Wisteria Lane" from Desperate Housewives. That show was very different in feel, but had a sort of larger-than-life quality that could be seen as akin to Blue Velvet, but in more of a suburban setting instead of small town. So my best guess is a Lynchian take on American suburbia, perhaps with a generational feel (grandparents-parents-grandkids), and the idea of every generation romanticizing its own youth as the best of times (or at least, the "normal" to which all other times are compared).

He's already done Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet i.e. small town America. I'm not a fan of TV shows and wish he was doing a movie instead. However, I'll probably check it out.

Lynch has done something damn near revolutionary every time he's brought his talent to TV including his repurposing of the Mulholland Drive pilot. Then again it could just be a big budget version of him reporting on the weather outside his window or picking a random number for a full season. I have very high hopes and can't wait to re-enter his brain.
