Ron Howard
Added 2020-12-01 17:17:58 +0000 UTCYo, I saw a trailer for that Hillbilly Elegy movie a while ago. Perhaps I shouldn't judge without seeing. But I was laughing the whole time as if it was a trailer parody created by SNL. These forced-sentiment, cringy Oscar-bait movies are often really obvious in their marketing. But this one transcended the majority of them. Ron Howard as director too. How much more cliche can you get?

Speaking of crappy Ron Howard films, have you seen Solo: A Star Wars Story? 😂😂

2020-12-02 01:23:30 +0000 UTCI watched it last week when it came out just out of curiosity and yeah its as bad as it looks. I mean it really is Oscar Bait: The Movie 101 trying to be the Hillbilly version of some combination of Boyhood and Moonlight . There is no flow to the story whatsoever, just a lot of screaming and yelling and moralizing to comedic levels (i.e. "Family is all you got," "You gotta decide to be somebody") like you see in the trailer. Also the main character JD Vance is so bland and uninteresting. I will say though the movie had potential here and there when it focused on issues involving living in poverty. Unfortunately though, anytime the movie takes a moment to highlight one of these issues it immediately follows it up with yet another screaming match that poor JD is stuck in the middle of. So yeah don't see it unless you're interested in what everyone's talking about.

2020-12-01 22:10:37 +0000 UTCRon Howard, like Robert Zemeckis, has been a has-been for years. They're just working for the extra paycheck that they don't need. Also, your favorite composer did the score lol.

2020-12-01 19:30:31 +0000 UTCNah, I skipped it based on what I was hearing from some Letterbox'd friends and the trailer that I had a similar reaction to as you. I haven't seen some of the more well regarded movies from this year. Definitely wasn't gonna spend my time on this.

2020-12-01 18:09:04 +0000 UTCWhat an absolute waste of Amy Adams and Glenn Close. Even when they're doing Oscar bait, it usually doesn't feel this trite. There's usually at least enough of a hook to convince me to watch for their performances but this seems like too much and even world class performances from both of them wouldn't convince me to watch this.
