Added 2021-02-13 04:20:32 +0000 UTCI normally don't go back and watch old reviews, but I did recently out of curiosity on a couple of movies I really like. Was interested to see if my perspective had changed at all. And...now I see why I don't go back and look at old videos. XD Because it's cringy and embarrassing. Not only did my perspective change, but I considered redoing those old reviews, and updating them. I didn't think these reviews did either film justice, and I feel they deserve more attention and insight at some point. My question for you guys is, what do you think when film critics redo a film review? Do you consider it too redundant?

Instead of redoing the reviews, you could revisit them. Incorporate the old review content into the new review. Talk about how your opinion has changed and why.

If all you were doing was to point out a small thing you didn't comment on before it might seem repetitive (although tbh I'd still be interested) but I don't think that's what you are referring to. As someone who has only recently found your channel in the past two months, I would be REALLY interested in this! I've listened to so many of your reviews from years ago and wondered if you had anything to add or change. i love this idea

2021-02-13 06:39:53 +0000 UTCSeveral other reviewers that I follow have done the same thing and they always do it to polish up things to make it more fleshed out and professional than they were before. I'm always in favor of that if enough time has passed and they have something significant to add to the older review.

2021-02-13 06:26:57 +0000 UTCThanks. Good point. If I did it, it wouldn't be all the time or anything. But maybe if I really felt like I needed to offer a fresh take. Like for a review I did back in 2011 or something.

2021-02-13 05:47:29 +0000 UTCI think you should redo your review if you have something new to say. Of course you have! It can be as much exciting as review of another movie. I'm looking forward to hear you.

2021-02-13 05:20:59 +0000 UTCFor film reviewers who target movies as they're released, with the aim of steering the public toward the gold and away from the junk, I think redoing reviews falls a bit flat. Even if the critic's perspective has changed over time, the value in their review is in answering how the film struck them at the time. Hearing how they feel about the film later is usually less interesting, because it isn't really the point. However, since YOUR reviews are less about "what's new at the movies this weekend," I think your viewers would be more interested in how your takes on films evolve over time. So for you, I'd say to go for it whenever you think your insight might have changed.

2021-02-13 04:33:35 +0000 UTC"Redoing" a review because your view has changed in a significant way is quite interesting. Art can so easily evolve as we gain new knowledge and experience. Sometimes it's not a matter of watching a movie over and over again for it to click. Sometimes it requires distance and real world experience for things to connect in your head. So no, I don't think it's redundant as long as what is being said in this new version differs from the first. I still find that to be worthwhile criticism.
