Golden Globes

What are your thoughts on the cancellation, and what do you think will happen to the future of award shows?

You make great points. And yeah, it's a misguided message that really does more harm than good. Virtue signaling at its finest. It's all for the clout, not the substance.

Deepfocuslens

Totally agree. And Yah Tom Cruise and his "protest" was such a bold and brave thing to do. XD #socialjusticewarriors

Deepfocuslens

That'll never happen. Haha But I find it interesting watching them trying to salvage through the pandemic.

Good! They're even a bigger joke than the Oscars. That's doing a public service. Until they get actual critical thinkers to represent the voting committee, award shows will be nothing but circus freak shows.

Cancel Culture is a psyop to bring down Hollywood.

Hollywood is officially dead. LOTS and LOTS of people in the business are all going to prison for pedophilia and child trafficking. All tied to Jeffrey Epstein. I mean, look what's happening to Hollywood. Award shows are dead, people like Ellen stepping down, celebrities exposing themselves as utter trash and virtual signaling weirdos, Weinstein is in prison. I mean, satanic Hollywood is about to die. That's why the Globes are getting cancelled and we'll see the Oscars and Grammys, etc.....all getting cancelled soon. I'm not shitting you, Hollywood is now getting called out and exposed for pedophilia and raping and murdering children in satanic rituals. But they are all going down for good!

I honestly cracked up when I saw the news, along with Tom Cruise giving back all of the awards he won. It's like we'll survive without you guys if you don't come back. A lot of the stars don't look like they want to be there (including the hosts) and the awards are meaningless and a lot of us immediately forget about it afterwards. At the end of the day, all they care about is ratings and remaining relevant but obviously don't know what the hell they are doing except branding themselves with identity politics/social justice and not really meaning it (obviously I'm sure some do). For my money, I say just pay Ricky Gervais whatever he wants and let him host the show every year along with the Oscars while we're at it.

The HFPA has a long history of corruption, most notably for accepting bribes in exchange for nominations. Not having a single Black member in their organization for decades is, I’ll admit, rather disgraceful. But cutting ties with the Globes like NBC did before the HFPA even had a chance to implement the reforms it promised to make a couple months ago makes no sense to me. This is going to cost LA $80 million in revenue, much of which would have gone to working class people who take on jobs related to the event. Not to mention the fact that prestige films lose a key promotional tool that allows them to boost their box office over the holiday season. In an age where non-IP related films—movies that are original and not tied to a brand—are increasingly marginalized and depend on the awards season to gain exposure and turn a profit, that’s not good. But more than anything else, this is going to further alienate audiences from Hollywood. The key aspect to shrinking audiences of awards shows—other than showcasing films that are too obscure and not had any box office impact—is that they have gotten way too political in recent years, more so than they’d ever been before. With the rise of the woke movement and the controversies that generate over several films every year, from La La Land and Three Billboards to Green Book and Joker, people are sick of it. Because of that and the shrinking ratings it causes, awards shows may soon go away.

I agree, but I also wish it were that simple. Watching it destruct means large changes on the horizon I think. It's fascinating to watch. At least, from my perspective.

Deepfocuslens

Yah that's what I find interesting. Watching this self-destruction of the industry. It's like watching a burning train go by.

Deepfocuslens

Just one more "victory" for would-be social justice. They are eating their own.
