Kevin Spacey
Added 2021-05-24 18:51:41 +0000 UTCWhat do ya'll think about his return to film? I admit, I am one of the people who has really looked into his mysterious story and the conspiracy theories. It's so extremely suspicious. The reddit threads are fun for sure, but oof. Curious to hear your thoughts.

I kinda feel like he has created this villain online persona and it’s bone chilling to me. And if it is potentially linked to far worse as is suspected, then I think it is something to be concerned about. Polanski isn't even allowed on American soil. And he isn't boasting in creepy ways the way Spacey has been. It's a strange publicity ploy. And I just don't like the idea of someone like that getting press for it. If he had just gone away and said nothing or done nothing after the allegations came forward, then perhaps I would be more sympathetic to it. But it's the behavior, the coincidental deaths, christmas videos, that all just rub me the wrong way.

2021-05-26 05:53:48 +0000 UTCHe's a fine actor, but I wouldn't be in a room alone with him. He is a creep. It's unfortunate that due process doesn't seem to apply to these people.

2021-05-25 16:57:45 +0000 UTCI think if what he was accused of should end his career if true but also he was my favorite actor before all that so I’m not too upset about his return. I mean if Polanski can still make films and even win an Oscar after what he did , I can’t really clutch my pearls over it.

2021-05-25 01:27:07 +0000 UTCJust read a couple of articles. The fact that he insinuated he had something to do with the deaths makes him an even bigger creep (“Kill them with kindness”? Really?) Plus, yeah, three deaths is really weird.

2021-05-25 01:06:27 +0000 UTCI have nothing to say about it except the irony of him playing a pedo in American Beauty.

2021-05-24 22:04:46 +0000 UTCI would have been perfectly happy if I never saw Kevin Spacey again. From a creative standpoint—which admittedly is not the most important one to take on the matter—the guy peaked in the ‘90s, starring in a number of good to great films (L.A. Confidential being my favorite). He showed what a magnetic, accomplished actor he could be. But after American Beauty, his films seriously dropped in quality to the point that he essentially faded away, occasionally coming up in a supporting part here and there (until, of course, House of Cards). It’s clear from what I’ve seen in interviews that he loves being an actor, loves playing a part. That’s why those post-scandal videos he posted, as creepy and unsettling as they are, didn’t really surprise me. There’s no more parts for him to play, so he’s leaning into being the villain, a Frank Underwood for our YouTube consumption. As for the conspiracy theories about him having accusers and/or witnesses killed, I must admit I don’t pay much attention to them. I’d like to think that if there was even a hint of him having anything to do with their deaths, law enforcement would be all over him. He’s a predator, not a master criminal. Finally, as to him working again, it hasn’t bothered me as much as I thought it would. It’s not justice as to whether or not he acts again, it’s whether he can be proved in the court of law of committing assault. Besides, it seems like an obscure foreign film that will barely see the light of day and therefore make it easier to ignore.

2021-05-24 21:50:14 +0000 UTCI’ve never been much of a proponent of cancel culture. To me it takes a morally absolutist stance on events while denying the complicated humanity that can be found even in those who commit transgressions. There’s no allowance for nuance. And the fact that it takes place for the most part through trial by media and the court of public opinion does not speak well for it either. But Kevin Spacey, along with Weinstein and Scott Rudin, stands as a kind of totem that, if not outright legitimizes cancel culture, at least calls for something along its lines to protect others from such people. What I say may be speculation and conjecture, but I doubt there’s much humanity to those men. They’re quite possibly sociopaths, and most definitely monsters and predators who’ve been continuously getting away with what they’ve been doing for so long that it does in fact speak to a systemic flaw in Hollywood. Such men strengthen the cause for cancel culture, even as it continues to be practiced along the lines of the rigid ideology that formulates around it, rendering it deeply flawed and problematic.

2021-05-24 21:43:24 +0000 UTCSpacey definitely had his victims killed. He's as evil as they come. Major cabal member. He also had a massive had in the 9/11 attack by our own government.

2021-05-24 19:06:39 +0000 UTCThere's far more to the story. The coincidences surrounding the death of his victims is the thing I find most intriguing.

2021-05-24 19:03:25 +0000 UTCLooking into the mysterious deaths surrounding his victims, and the creepy christmas messages he sends out every year...to me he is more terrifying than anything. Not sure why anyone would want to encourage that sort of cartoonish villany. Especially in regards to assault. Gross.

2021-05-24 19:01:27 +0000 UTCYeah, I always saw him as an accomplished performer, but he never truly emotionally connected with me. Though certain characters that he played really suited that prickly demeanor well.

2021-05-24 18:58:51 +0000 UTCPersonally, I wouldn't cast him given the numerous stories of abuse and him taking advantage of young crew members while filming House of Cards. Kevin Pollak's story about Spacey having an affair with Bryan Singer's boyfriend while making Usual Suspects is definitely something to behold.

2021-05-24 18:55:00 +0000 UTCIt’s not that I think he’s a bad actor now, but looking back to me it seems he was just great at playing horrible people bc he is a truly horrible person. Wish he’d fuck off into oblivion and stop messing with minors.
