Cowboy Bebop for Netflix

Any fans of the original series out there? I'd be shocked if not. As many know, it's one of my favorite tv shows of all time. I've been very annoyed and skeptical of any live action versions in talks for the last 10 years. No way anyone could capture the aesthetic, the mood, the detail, the loneliness...through live action in the same magical way. Genre bending of this sort naturally lends itself to animation. Particularly animation so influenced by western pop culture. What do you guys think of the new Netflix adaptation? Obviously they've only been teasing it so far. Do you guys pick up bad vibes or good ones?

That is, if she doesn't pull an Akira Yamaoka and they just reuse her old tracks, although even that would probably be preferable to an all-new score.

For the record, there a PLETHORA, a plethora amounts of original material out there! All the up and coming filmmakers pretty much have new and original ideas and spins! It's the HOLLYWOOD side of the film industry that's dead! They go off of what sells. They've been exposed, and nobody cares anymore. We just want good films, not excuses to sell merchandise.

Good point. Hmm off the top of my head I can't think of a live action adaptation that has worked compared to an animated original. But I'd have to really think about it I think. But yes, thank god Yoko Kanno is back. I think there would've been protests otherwise. XD

I think there's plenty of original shit. Just less in the mainstream.

Any new adaptation or remake are all dogshit! They get waaaaaaY to political and take away the magic and the spirit of the original source material because the studios only focus on one aspect that they think will see the most to the audiences. I'm done with Hollywood's recent crap! Don't bother watching it Maggie! Stick with the classics!

I’ll probably watch as a fan of the series but can we seriously just get original shit anymore? my GOD

Is there any animation to live-action adaptation that has ever worked? Animation is one of the most boundless artistic mediums out there in my opinion. Trying to constrict all that creativity into the restrictive bounds of live-action is never going to go well. I'd say the production is fighting an uphill battle but it's more like scaling a vertical wall bare handed. The one positive thing I can say is I'm really glad Yoko Kanno is back doing the score. The music of that show is probably like half the reason I love it. So at the very least, if this show leads to a quality soundtrack from her, it's not a total wash.
